This Monday, 12th January we kick off our 21 Day New Year Summer cleanse program! (in the Southern Hemisphere)

January is often framed as a time to fix, overhaul, or reinvent ourselves. But this language - self-improvement, self-development quietly carries the suggestion that something about you is broken or lacking. That you need to become someone else in order to be worthy of care, health, or ease.

This is not the spirit of our work.

January, for us, is about self-awareness and self-recovery. It is about noticing what is already present rather than forcing change. It is about gently turning toward the parts of yourself that have been overworked, overlooked, or carrying too much, what many would call shadow, but what I often see simply as parts asking to be met.

When we rush into extremes, restrictive cleanses, rigid routines, relentless optimisation, we often bypass these parts. We override the body’s signals instead of listening to them. And while this can create short-term momentum, it rarely leads to lasting healing.

Our upcoming January cleanse is designed as a starting place, not a demand. A soft re-entry. A way to create space so the body can speak again and be heard. Through simple food, supportive rituals, and steady rhythms, we begin to restore trust between you and your body, without punishment, perfectionism, or pressure.

This kind of beginning honours both light and shadow. It recognises that fatigue, symptoms, cravings, and resistance are not failures, but information. They are part of the story. And when met with care, they become guides rather than obstacles.

January, then, becomes less about becoming “better” and more about becoming more present. Less about force, more about foundations, foundations that are sustainable, humane, and rooted in reality, rather than extremes that burn bright and fade quickly.

Ep. 6: The Body on Fire: How to Heal from Inflammation

Inflammation gets blamed for everything; joint pain, fatigue, skin flare-ups, gut issues, brain fog, even mood disorders. But here's what's often missed: inflammation isn't always the enemy. It's also your body's ancient protector, a messenger saying "pay attention”. The real problem begins when that message never switches off.

In this weeks episode of "This is How We Heal" Podcast, I discuss:

- What inflammation really is
- What drives it in modern life
- Practical ways to cool chronic inflammation while honouring its protective purpose

Perhaps it’s time to pack up the Christmas decorations but they’re still too lovely to rush. The festive cheer has moved on for some, yet for many it is still the holidays, days stretching softly without urgency. The house holds onto that in-between feeling, neither here nor there. And just as quickly as it arrived, it slipped past, quietly, almost unannounced. No need to be efficient about it. Just a little longer. Maybe until the weekend. Same goes for the decorations at .by.anthia Just a little longer…

Two simple, very good dishes served with white rice.

Thinly sliced oxheart tomatoes and cucumber, dressed generously with olive oil, topped with homemade pickled onions, crunchy salt flakes and cracked black pepper, basil, and mint. Bright, sweet, salty, briny, and exactly what you want alongside anything rich.

The second is a slow-cooked stew of pre soaked navy beans and lamb necks, simmered with tomatoes and onions, gently spiced with cinnamon and chilli, and finished with olive oil. Deep, savoury, and built for spooning over rice.

This post expands on Episode 6 of my podcast, This Is How We Heal, where I explore inflammation not as an enemy to be suppressed, but as a messenger the body uses to signal that something needs attention. Acute inflammation is protective and healing. Chronic inflammation, however, is where harm begins.

Inflammation is often blamed for everything - joint pain, fatigue, skin flare-ups, digestive issues, brain fog, and even mood disturbances. Yet what is frequently missed is why inflammation becomes chronic in the first place. In this episode, I unpack what inflammation truly is, what drives it in modern life, and how chronic, low-grade inflammation quietly undermines health when the body is never given the conditions to resolve it.

This Substack piece goes deeper into the physiology of inflammation, the underlying drivers - dietary, metabolic, environmental, emotional, and lifestyle-related and the naturopathic strategies that help cool chronic inflammation while still honouring its essential protective role.
