Let’s talk about how to make wellbeing fit into your life.

Something I recommend to all my clients and workshop participants is the idea of bookending your day with small wellbeing habits.

Choosing a practice or two to set you up well for the day, and another that helps you settle down, let go of stress and break out of rumination at the end of the day.

The beautiful thing about rituals and routines is that it takes the effort out of thinking about timing. And the ritual becomes like brushing your teeth - you don’t question it because it’s good for you. You just do it!

Because it’s the small things we do each day that accumulate, become a way of life and affect how good (or bad!) we feel in our bodies.

And the single biggest factor that influences wellbeing levels is YOU! The decisions, the habits, the routines that you engage with, and the ones you let go of.

So make it small:
🌅 Maybe try no phone use in the first hour you wake up, getting sunlight into your eyes, some quiet stillness or meditation time, movement of some kind. Something in that first hour of the day that nourishes you and eases you into the day.

🌄 And in the evening, a journaling or gratitude practice to focus on what went well, warm bath or shower to wash off stress that’s accumulated, turning off screens an hour before bed, or a herbal tea and reading a book.

Think of these rituals as the minimum effective dose to support your wellbeing. Anchors that are non negotiables and can yield a sense of grounded stability and resourcefulness that help you deal with lifes challenges.

📣 So I’d love to hear from you, what are your non-negotiable daily routines that help you feel good?

On todays Wellbeing Masterclass one of the participants asked about tips for how she can find her purpose in life, that's beyond her identity as mother, partner, friend, job title etc.

My take on purpose is that it's a word I don't particularly like. It feels too heavy, there's too much pressure attached to it. Like "if I just find my life purpose then everything will fall into place and life will be good".

I don't agree. Years ago it dawned on me that it's not purpose that we need to find, but instead reflect and connect to "what's my contribution to the world?"

What is it that really lights me up, makes me feel alive and is my gift and superpower? What is life calling forth in me to express and contribute in a way that it's going to be of benefit to others?

In the ecosystems we live and work in we're all different and our unique talents when contributed in an open-hearted and non-attached way, benefits the health of that whole ecosystem.

When we can live a life of contribution that's in alignement with what is true for us, and we follow that thread, then that's when can derive meaning and fulfilment in how we live our lives.

Have a great weekend! 💛

Sometimes just having someone articulate the current reality can be incredibly reassuring and settling. We feel less alone, that it’s not just us or all in our head and there’s a sense of us all being in it together.

This current reality is unsettling, destabilising and often hard to understand.

Even more reason for us to gather together, feel the support of a community and learn strategies to take care of ourselves better.

I’m delighted to be running another series of fully booked Leadership and Wellbeing Masterclasses for Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) and NSW Health.

Thanks Gail Forrest and all the team at HETI for continuing to support and invest in wellbeing.

These 90-minute sessions are highly engaging, interactive, reflective and practical and I’m grateful for the opportunity to deliver this content for the third time.

📣 If anyone in my network has any contacts within the education teams of QLD, VIC, SA and WA Health they could introduce me to so we can help more healthcare workers, I’d really appreciate it 🙏

I love when virtual connections become in-person meet ups!

Was great to enjoy a walking meeting yesterday afternoon with Declan Edwards - someone I’ve followed and admired for a few years, discussing all things positive psychology and workplace happiness and wellbeing.

So nice to bounce ideas around and learn more about each others love of living a more self-aware and conscious life. Thanks Declan!

Most of my best ideas come when I’m walking and not chained to my desk trying to force inspiration. I think clearer and come back feeling settled, energised and less overwhelmed.

And I know I’m not the only one.

So I’ve decided to combine two things I love and open up Walking Clarity Sessions.

Coaching conversations we have while we both walk, wherever we are, connected via WhatsApp.

Think support, clarity and movement — all in one.

If you’ve been craving a way to talk things through without another Zoom call… this might be for you.

It’s a chance to experience coaching at a third of my regular rates.

There are only ten available. Message me if you’re curious 🌿

For the last 10 weeks I’ve been leading a discussion group for Rick Hanson on his Rewire Your Anxious Brain course.

Yesterdays session was especially touching, exploring how anxiety shows in up in our relationships, often from insecure attachment patterns.

And yet the discussion highlighted that for some of the members of our group, due to illnesses and difficult personal circumstances, they don’t have many close relationships at all, have limited options to meet people - and sadly live pretty isolated lives.

In processing the emotion and tenderness of the discussions afterwards, what struck me most is how important it is for us to have connection and support with other humans.

To be in community, in groups, in circles where we have a space and opportunity to stop and share our experiences - the good and the bad - and be witnessed in our messy and vulnerable humanity.

To receive the kindness and compassion of others and to be buoyed by love.

There’s a sweet preciousness of life that opens up to us when we gather together to share - and a relief that we don’t need to hold the pain or the fear of what’s happening in the world all on our own 🙏

Have a gentle weekend 🫶

When I started practicing gratitude about 13 years ago, I’d never heard of neuroplasticity and had no idea that it was possible to rewire and reshape our brains.

All I knew was that over the course of a few months when I started writing gratitude lists each day that I’d gone from automatically thinking the worst about situations that were happening to me, and complaining about them, to starting to notice more beauty in the world around me.

It was weird at first. Finding myself overcome and crying about how beautiful the scent of Jasmine was on my morning walk. Feeling lighter in my mood and personality. Connecting to more joy.
Weird, but also pretty magical.

This simple habit, which I seriously did not expect to work, was changing me in so many ways and I was hooked.

Gradually I started to talk to people about it - friends that commented on how much happier I seemed, strangers in the coffee line at my local cafe, anyone that would listen actually 😆

And the more I did that, the longer and more detailed my gratitude lists became, and the more I noticed to be grateful for as I moved throughout my day.

It didn’t make the bad stuff go away and it didn’t make me immune to sadness and suffering, but it did stop me hyper fixating on it and I truly felt more grounded, hopeful and content the longer I practiced it.

This is the amazing power and ability of our brains. To shape themselves around what we focus on, and for that, I’m grateful 🙏

The message that’s landing the most in my workshops right now, is ‘Control the Controllables’.

Stop wasting time, headspace and energy on events and dramas completely out with your ability to change them.

We’re living in crazy, unpredictable, chaotic times and it does us no service whatsoever to ourselves or those around us when we’re spinning out of control about things we can’t possibly change.

Focus on you my friends. Your mindset, rest, screen time, sleep, healthy practices. Let the rest of the drama and seductive lure of outrage go - we can’t control it so stop feeding it 🫶

10 years ago I was working with a mentor who used to ask the most squirmy question during our sessions….

‘What are you pretending not to know?’

Every single time it would stop me in my tracks, circuit break the stories I was telling myself about why I hadn’t moved forward on my projects and vision and forced a really honest and true reflection about what I had been avoiding.

Exquisitely uncomfortable yet absolutely transformative.

It’s still the best coaching question I’ve come across.

If you happen to be feeling a bit stuck, lost or wondering why things aren’t changing for you - it’s worth taking some time to sit with this question and see what appears.

And if you’re interested in having me hold that space for you to connect with your deeper truth, reach out and we’ll set up a time.

🙏 And huge thanks to Julian Ramon Noel for posing that curly question that’s stayed with me all this time
