⚠ Important Recall Notice for SmartDrive Users – Australia

Subject: SmartDrive MX2+ Speed Control Dial – Urgent Safety Recall

We want to make sure our Australian community is aware of an important safety recall for the SmartDrive MX2+ Power Assist Device.

What’s Happening?
Permobil Australia has issued a recall on the Speed Control Dial used with the SmartDrive MX2+ due to serious safety concerns.

Key Details:

Affected Models: MX2-3DCK and MX2-3DC Speed Control Dials

Manufactured/Supplied: Between 17 August 2023 and 10 March 2025

Issue: The dial may fail to stop the motor, start unexpectedly, shut down after starting, or fail to start at all.

Reported Incidents: Over 780 complaints globally, with at least 5 serious injuries reported overseas.

What You Should Do Now:

Stop using the Speed Control Dial immediately.

If possible, switch to an alternate control option such as SwitchControl buttons, mono-jack switch, or compatible wearable controller (Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch).

Contact Permobil Australia to arrange a free replacement and get instructions for return or safe disposal.

Do not use the affected product until you receive your replacement.

Why This Matters:
This is a serious recall. Even if your SmartDrive seems to be working fine, the fault can occur without warning and cause injury.

If you’re unsure whether your device is affected, or if you need help with the recall process, please reach out to us or directly to Permobil Australia.

Max Mobility/Permobil has expanded the recall of the SpeedControl Dial, a wired control option for the SmartDrive MX2+ Power Assist Device, due to safety and performance concerns.

This recall applies to all SpeedControl Dials in the market. Users should immediately discontinue use of the SpeedControl Dial to reduce the likelihood of a potentially hazardous or harmful situation and use an alternate method to control the SmartDrive MX2+ Power Assist Device.

SmartDrive MX2+ remains available with these control options:
β€’ Wired SwitchControl, which can be ordered with a mono jack port to connect with an optional Buddy Button.
β€’ Wireless via Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch using the SmartDrive App

SpeedControl Dial users can request a SwitchControl, including with an optional Buddy Button, free of charge.

We recognise and apologise for the inconvenience this may cause you.
