The Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol & other Drugs (APSAD) is the Asia Pacific's leading multidisciplinary organisation for professionals involved in the alcohol and other drug field. APSAD is dedicated to increasing the profile of the issues related to the use of alcohol and other drugs, through the dissemination of information from the wide range of professions involved in this field
. In addition, we strive to promote improved standards in clinical practice and in research into this and allied subjects. It also provides a network of drug and alcohol professionals in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific. Through its internationally recognised scientific journal, the Drug and Alcohol Review, and its annual Scientific Conference, APSAD provides a forum for the latest research on the nature, prevention and treatment of physical, psychological and social problems related to the use of psychoactive substances. APSAD is dedicated to:
promoting evidence-based improvements in the treatment and prevention of drug and alcohol-related problems
raising awareness about the problems related to the use of alcohol and other drugs
promoting best standards in research in the drug and alcohol field

Subscription to the APSAD e-newsletter
APSAD offers a range of other activities for members. A conference is held annually, with this year's conference scheduled to take place in Sydney 30 October - 2 November. Regional conferences and workshops are also supported, often jointly with other professional organisations. APSAD also produces a bi-monthly newsletter, to keep members up-to- date and provide a forum for discussion. The Drug and Alcohol Review is the Society's official journal. Celebrating its 34th year of publication, the journal is listed on the international database, Medline. Published bi-monthly as of 2005, the Review presents original research, policy development and information in the drug and alcohol research field.

A white oval pressed pill with score lines and ‘2’ on one side expected to contain alprazolam was found to contain paracetamol and tramadol instead. No alprazolam was detected.
Benzos (expected) are drugs typically used to sedate and treat anxiety. Tramadol (detected) is an opioid with SNRI-like properties, commonly used for short-term relief or severe pain. This is the first time that tramadol has been detected in an expected benzo sample at CanTEST.

SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES
First Peoples Scholarships
Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Māori, and/or Pasifika people working in the alcohol and other drugs field, and employees/volunteers of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
Student and Early Career Researcher Scholarships
Students and early career researchers.
Frontline Worker Scholarships
For frontline workers and non-medical clinicians working in the alcohol and other drugs field. This includes nurses, social workers, pharmacists, needle and syringe program workers, counsellors, peer workers, etc.
Community Scholarships
Scholarships are available for employees and volunteers of drug-user organisations, non-government organisations, not-for-profit community organisations, and community and remote health centres.
SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
Scholarship can include conference registration, return economy class flights and accommodation.
Applicants must reside in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand
Priority will be given to accepted abstract presenters
Scholarships are available to APSAD members, if you're not a member, it's a good time to consider joining.

Late Breaker abstracts open for submissions.
If your findings were not ready for submission by the first round deadline due to incomplete data, or you have exciting new research, this is your last chance to be included in what is shaping up to be a fantastic program filled with international and local distinguished speakers, innovative research, policy, and clinical practice.
The Late Breaking sessions are informative fast-paced 5-minute presentations. The sessions are dedicated to new information or important findings not fully available before the general abstract deadline. Presentations are five minutes max and should have no more than five slides.
Late Breaking presentations are held during plenary sessions and provide an opportunity to present to all conference delegates. Late Breakers are one of the most popular sessions with delegates at the conference.
