Dr Louis Wessels is a cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgeon and is a senior lecturer at the faculty of medicine and health sciences. His practice covers the whole range of practice in cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery with special emphasis on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast (augmentation, reduction and breast lift) as well as facial cosmetic and reconstructive s

urgery. He is also an accomplished microsurgeon and regularly performs both reconstructive microsurgery for breast reconstruction and head & neck restoration following cancer surgery. In addition, he has expertise in body contouring surgery and non-surgical cosmetic therapies. Dr Wessels received his MBChB in South Africa, completing his internship & general surgery residency, training in one of the most challenging clinical environments, before completing his Fellowship and his Master of Medicine in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He subsequently graduated from Macquarie University in the inaugural award of the Masters of Advanced Surgery (Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery), for which he was awarded a Scholarship from Johnson & Johnson. Dr Wessels successfully completed his second Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery when was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015. He is a member of the Surgical Infection Research Group at Macquarie University, and has published world-leading research on breast implant infection and outcomes.

Abdominoplasty surgery, commonly known as a tummy tuck, was performed to remove excess abdominal skin and fat, while also tightening the abdominal wall. A muscle repair (re**us diastasis repair) was carried out to correct separation of the abdominal muscles that occurred after childbirth. This not only strengthens core support but also helps restore a flatter, firmer abdominal contour. By re-establishing the natural proportions between the ribcage and pelvis, the procedure also visually elongates the torso, enhancing overall body balance and silhouette.

This patient was already happy with her first breast augmentation result but came to us wanting a fuller look. We performed an implant removal and replacement, exchanging her 280cc teardrop implants for larger 545cc teardrop implants. This was a relatively simple exchange as the patients breast pocket had already been stretched by the original implant. We added an internal bra for ongoing breast support.

As you can see from the before images, this patient had developed a what’s known as a waterfall deformity within her breast tissue. A waterfall deformity occurs when the natural breast tissue separates from the breast implant and hangs lower. To correct this, we performed a breast implant removal, breast mastopexy (lift) and replaced the breast implants.

The previous implants were replaced with 470cc round high profile implants.

Breast augmentation surgery where we used an internal bra support anchored in the inframammary fold. Implants placed in the dual plane position for optimal contour and upper pole fullness.

Fat grafting performed to the medial (cleavage) region to enhance and soften the cleavage while narrowing the gap. We used 370cc Mentor Round Moderate Plus, Microtextured implants for a defined result.

This patient wanted to restore her pre-baby breast volume after experiencing the common post-pregnancy change: loss of fullness. Using a breast implant, we’ve restored volume and shape. An internal bra technique was also used to provide added support and long-term stability.

Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is a procedure that removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to achieve a breast size more proportionate to the body. It often alleviates physical discomfort like back, neck, and shoulder pain.

An additional benefit of breast reduction is the lifting effect it typically includes. When breasts are lifted to a higher position, the visual proportion of the torso changes. The breasts no longer rest as low on the chest, which can create the illusion of a longer, more elongated torso.
