Welcome to our new Physio Diego!

Diego brings over 10 years of Physiotherapy experience to our team and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Here’s a little about Diego

My philosophy is that everyone deserves not just good, but great health care. To deliver this effectively we need to look beyond the diagnosis – and right to the client themselves. I believe that only when we understand the individual that we can truly help.

I completed my Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney and I have been fortunate enough to work as a Senior Physiotherapist with NSW Health, internationally across the United Kingdom for a few years, as well as spending months volunteering in Nepal. Coming from a predominantly hospital based background I understand the long journey of recovery and I always strive to go the extra step with my clients to deliver holistic, patient centered care that will of most benefit.

My areas of interest include all things orthopedic, neurological, chronic and complex. I have also spent a large part of my professional development expanding my musculoskeletal knowledge as well as developing auxiliary skills such as motivational interviewing and carer training.

Together we can work towards your goals and guide you to express your full potential within!

Welcome our New Physio Martina! We are so excited to have you on board🎉

A little about Martina

What are your goals in life? My goal is to help everyone fully live up to their potential in this world. Each individual has different goals in life, such as being able to walk without help, being able to participate in hobbies and activities, and being in control of their life. I like to treat all my patients as individuals and tailor my treatments to their needs.

I finished my Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) from the University of Sydney; during uni, I worked as a support worker for NDIS patients. I went on my physiotherapy journey in musculoskeletal and neurological fields. I worked extensively with people with chronic health issues, disabilities, and pain. I also like working with women and the elderly. I am very confident with special equipment prescription, such as hoists, walking frames and wheelchairs. I believe evidence-based therapy and “motion is lotion”. Furthermore, I have undergone further studies - some of which includes dry needling, APA Introductory Women’s health Physiotherapy, APA Level 1 Women’s health Through the Life Stages, and DMA level 1 Clinical Pilates for Physiotherapists. All of my knowledge allows me to empower my patients to be as independent and confident as possible.

I would describe myself as friendly, patient and reliable. I listen to my patient’s stories and treat everyone with respect and love. Feel free to get in contact with me and we can work out a treatment plan together!

The world of disability is not properly understood.

The irony behind that statement leads to the question, "why not?" aren't we all humans?

Maybe its as simple as looking at people as human beings nothing more nothing less.

We have encountered the solutions to 3 barriers NDIS participants face that prevent them from reaching their true potential.

1. Lack of Self Belief

2. Not understanding their mental health issues

3. Lack of a bridge between the client and the therapist.

Watch to find out more about how these affect the participants of the NDIS.

Struggling to bend sideways or even rotate or bend your spine? Feeling stiffness all the time? Maybe you need to try this !

Releasing the inside of your leg !

For those with shoulder pain struggling to be able to come into full flexion with no pain and for those struggling to get maximal external rotation range.

This exercise is used for end stage shoulder rehab. It aims to improve your ER range (rotating your shoulder outwards) as well as helping with keeping the shoulder joint in its socket efficiently.

ER range is commonly left untreated and people after their rehab are left with ER deficits which isn’t good. We must make sure the shoulder is moving in all angles efficiently.

This exercise not only helps External rotation range but also internal rotation strength. Both being vital in ensuring shoulder health.

Points to remember
1. Make sure when you are turning the shoulder to not raise the shoulder or elevate the shoulder. Elevations means compensation which means this is not a great habit to be learning.
2. Keep the arm that you are working on unsupported and the rest of the body supported this is to ensure you get maximal range.
3. Focus on slow smooth movements.
4. Use a very light weight (.5kg) to start with and build up.
