Why is blepharoplasty (upper eyelid reduction) surgery the most commonly performed aesthetic procedure (ISAPS Global Surgery 2024) in the world?
-Eyelid skin ages more easily than other parts of the body (UV expsoure, constant movement, thin skin and skin is poorly supported by our orbital rim)
-Loose eyelid skin can obstruct vision, usually outer peripheral vision
-The surgery is often functional and aesthetic

This 75-80 year old patient was noticing problems with vision and the appearance of loose skin above her eyes. We thank our patient for allowing us to share her photos which were taken before and at 4 months post operatively.
Duration of surgery: 1 hour
Nights in hospital: 0, day surgery
Time to driving: when vision clears, usually after 3 days
Time off work: Bruising settles after 2-3 weeks. Work from home after 48 hours.
Time of weight bearing exercise: 6 weeks
Time on strong analgesia: usually less than 24 hours

Extended abdominoplasty in a 60-65 year old at 2 months post op. Over 2kg of skin and fat from the lower abdomen and hip removed in addition to a 2cm muscle separation repair. The patient was looking forward to removing her loose skin gained from having children and losing weight after bariatric surgery. While this lady is quite mature, she was healthy and motivated and has had a better recovery than most patients half her age.
Scar placement: This follows your preferred pant line (bikini, hipster, high cut)

Thigh lift (thigh wedge resections) results at 3 months post op in a 55-60 year old woman following massive weight loss of >40kg. I know the photos are at an unusual angle, but I want to show you that the scar is located on the inner aspect of the thigh and the groin. 1900ml of liposuction and 200g skin removal for each thigh performed. Thigh lift surgery often helps remove the loose skin that chaffs and becomes painful when walking and exercising. A thigh gap is achievable in patients who have reached their goal weight. The result should be harmonious with the rest of the patient’s shape (avoiding over resection) and the thighs should have a trapezium shape (and not look like tree trunks). This is one of the toughest recoveries to get through in body contouring and the scarring is often quite obvious- but I recommend it to patients who have recovered easily and well from their other body contouring procedures and make great scars.

Brachioplasty results at 10 months post op in a 50-60 year old woman following massive weight loss with removal of approx. 300g from each arm and 14 cm of width. The scar is located on the inner aspect of the arm. It is hard to see in the postoperative photo as the patient has excellent healing (swipe left) . Not all patients can expect such a good scar but we can estimate what kind of scar you will get from how you heal in other parts of your body.
