In the first few days after eyelid surgery, you will usually need to rest, keep your head elevated and use cool compresses to help manage bruising and swelling. A postoperative review is typically arranged around the end of the first week, when sutures are often removed and your progress is checked.

Some patients feel comfortable driving and returning to light or desk-based work around this stage, while others require a longer period away from normal duties. Factors such as the type of blepharoplasty, your general health, the nature of your job and how your eyes are healing all play a role.

Dr Charles Cope will provide personalised guidance on activity restrictions, including when it is suitable for you to drive, work, exercise and resume day-to-day tasks.

If you are thinking about blepharoplasty or have any other questions, our team is here to help and book a consultation with Dr Charles Cope for individual advice.

With age, some people develop excess skin and fat around the eyelids.

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) involves removing or repositioning excess skin and fat through incisions placed in the natural eyelid creases or on the inner surface of the lower lid. The aim is to adjust the eyelid contour and, in selected cases, improve function. In some situations, Dr Charles Cope may also discuss non-surgical options such as laser resurfacing or other energy-based treatments for fine lines or skin texture.

If you would like to explore your options and suitability for the treatment, we are here to help you book a consultation with Dr Charles Cope.

Considering breast augmentation mammoplasty?

Breast augmentation mammoplasty is a breast surgery using implants. It can also be combined with a breast lift (mastopexy) when there is significant loose skin, or used as part of a plan to address breast size differences or mild ptosis.

Key decisions usually include:
- Implant position – in front of or behind the chest muscle
- Incision location – in the breast crease, around the ar**la or in the armpit
- Implant fill and shape – for example, saline or silicone-filled, round or shaped

Each choice has advantages, limitations and specific risks, which need to be weighed against your anatomy, health and goals. Recovery involves a period of reduced activity, and experiences differ from person to person.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your suitability for this surgery, contact our friendly team and book a consultation with a specialist plastic surgeon Dr Charles Cope.

Breast augmentation mammoplasty is a procedure that aims to increase breast volume using implants. It may be considered for people who have fully developed breasts and are concerned about breast volume, mild drooping, or differences in size between the breasts.

A potential candidate should generally:
- Be in good physical health
- Have fully developed breasts
- Understand the potential risks and limitations of surgery
- Have realistic goals about changes in breast size and shape

During a consultation, Dr Charles Cope will take a detailed medical history, review any existing health conditions and examine your chest and breast tissue before advising whether this procedure may be suitable.

If you are considering breast augmentation mammoplasty, please discuss this with your GP first and obtain a referral, then arrange a consultation with Dr Cope for personalised advice.

A deep plane facelift (rhytidectomy) and neck lift focus on lifting not only the skin, but also the deeper structures of the face and neck. This approach may address concerns such as pronounced folds around the cheeks, along the jawline and in the neck area.

Surgery is not suitable for everyone. During your consultations, Dr Cope will review your medical history, examine your facial anatomy, discuss potential risks and recovery, and outline whether a deep plane facelift and/or neck lift may be appropriate for you. Non-surgical options may also be discussed where relevant.

If you are considering a facelift (rhytidectomy), get in touch with our friendly team to book a consultation with Dr Charles Cope.

Recovery after otoplasty is individual, but there are common stages your surgeon will discuss with you. Swelling, bruising and discomfort around the ears are expected and are usually managed with pain relief and dressings or a headband.

To support healing and reduce certain risks, your surgeon may recommend that you:
- keep the ears clean and dry
- use two to three pillows when sleeping to keep your head elevated
- avoid scratching or rubbing the ears
- avoid strenuous exercise for around two to three weeks
- avoid contact sports for about a month
- wear a protective headband at night for roughly a month

These time frames are general only; your own plan may be shorter or longer depending on your age, health and the details of your surgery. Your surgeon will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions.

If you’re exploring whether otoplasty may be appropriate for you, reach out to schedule a private consultation with Dr Charles Cope.

A lower body lift is a form of body contouring surgery that targets excess skin and tissue around the lower trunk. It can involve procedures to the abdomen, flanks, buttocks and outer thighs, and is often considered after significant weight loss or other changes that result in skin folds.

Depending on your needs, a lower body lift may be combined with abdominoplasty and thigh or buttock lifts, and sometimes with liposuction to selected areas.

The lower body lift (belt lipectomy) is a long operation under general anaesthetic (often taking 8 hours or more), with a hospital stay of five to seven days. There is a prolonged recovery time, with most patients taking four to six weeks off work. This procedure produces a dramatic improvement in body contour and removes medical problems such as rashes and skin breakdown from loose skin rubbing.

Suitability depends on factors such as your overall health, weight stability, skin quality and expectations.

Dr Charles Cope will create a comprehensive, personalised treatment plan specific to your needs during your consultation.

Abdominoplasty is a type of abdominal surgery that removes selected areas of excess skin and fat and, in some cases, tightens the abdominal wall. Depending on your examination findings and goals, several approaches may be discussed:

- Mini abdominoplasty – usually the least extensive option, aimed at a smaller area of loose skin below the umbilicus.
- Full abdominoplasty – commonly used when there is more excess skin and fat; may also address loose or separated abdominal muscles.
- Extended abdominoplasty / belt lipectomy – a more extensive technique that continues around the flanks and lower back for patients with significant tissue excess.
- Liposuction – may be added to selected areas such as the hips or flanks where appropriate.

Suitability for this procedure differs from person to person, and a personalised assessment is essential.

If you’re exploring whether abdominoplasty may be appropriate for you, schedule a private consultation with Dr Charles Cope.

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to change the prominence and shape of the ears. It is usually performed through an incision hidden in the crease behind the ear. This allows the cartilage to be reshaped, folded and stitched, and in some cases a small amount of cartilage is removed. The incision is then closed with sutures.

Suitability depends on age, ear shape, general health and expectations. A consultation with a Specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr Charles Cope, is important to discuss options, risks and whether this procedure is suitable.

A lower body lift is a major operation that can involve surgery to the abdomen, flanks, buttocks and thighs. Preparing well helps you understand what is involved and what your recovery may require.

Before surgery, your team will usually focus on two key areas:

1. Medical assessment and planning
- GP referral so your surgeon has your medical history and any relevant test results.
- Specialist consultation to assess your weight stability, skin quality and overall health.
- Discussion of the proposed procedures, hospital stay, scars, risks, recovery and costs, including any Medicare eligibility where applicable.

2. Practical and lifestyle steps
To support your recovery and reduce certain risks, your surgeon may recommend that you:
- Achieve and maintain a stable weight.
- Arrange support at home for daily activities, childcare and transport.
- Avoid medications and supplements that can increase bruising or bleeding, as advised by your doctor.
- Prepare a recovery area at home so essentials are easy to reach and walkways are clear.
- Stay as fit and active as your health allows.
- Stop smoking and avoid ni****ne for at least 6 weeks prior to surgery, and as advised afterwards.

Your exact preparation plan will be discussed during private consultation with Dr Charles Cope.

Abdominoplasty is a type of body contouring surgery that can impact both aesthetics and abdomen function. It is not right for everyone, and suitability needs to be assessed on an individual basis.

You may be considered a candidate after assessment if:
- you have loose skin or muscle separation (diastasis recti) of the abdomen
- you have excess skin after pregnancy or significant weight loss
- you are in good general physical and mental health
- you are at a stable body weight with a healthy BMI
- you do not have medical conditions that would significantly increase the risks of surgery or impair healing
- you are prepared to stop smoking for a period before and after surgery, as advised
- you can take time away from work and usual activities to complete the recovery and aftercare
- you understand the potential risks and complications
- you have realistic expectations of what surgery can and cannot achieve

A GP referral is required before seeing Dr Charles Cope. At your consultations, your medical history, examination findings, goals, treatment options, risks, recovery, costs and any possible Medicare eligibility will be discussed so you can make an informed decision about whether abdominoplasty is appropriate for you.

30/01/2026

Excess skin or tissue on the eyelids can occur due to changes in skin elasticity, muscle support, or the position of underlying fat. Treatment options vary depending on the cause and severity of these changes. Approaches may include non-surgical treatments that target skin quality, as well as surgical procedures such as upper or lower blepharoplasty, which involve removing excess skin and adjusting underlying tissues when clinically appropriate.

During a consultation, Dr Cope can assess the structure of your eyelids and outline which treatment options may suit your individual situation. This allows for a personalised discussion based on anatomy, medical history and goals.

If you would like to understand the available options, our team can assist with arranging a consultation.
