The skin around your eye area is fairly sensitive. This means it’s more prone to wrinkles, stretched skin, and other signs of ageing.

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is for noticeable eye-area laxity – it involves removing excess skin or fat tissue from around the eyes, which can help with the appearance of wrinkles and loose skin.

If you only have mild signs of ageing, a non-surgical treatment option may better serve your needs. On the other hand, if you have low or lax eyebrows, a forehead lift (browplasty) may be more suitable.

Dr Charles Cope consults with individual patients to understand their needs and wants, before designing a custom treatment plan. Begin your blepharoplasty surgery by consulting with Dr Cope!

Q: Will my breast lift (mastopexy) surgery affect my ability to breastfeed post-op?

A: Qualified surgeons like Dr Cope aim to avoid interfering with a woman’s ability to breastfeed after her procedure.

However, the reality of surgery is that complications are sometimes unavoidable. All surgeries come with a level of risk, and it’s up to the patient to decide whether the risk is worth the potential benefits.

Whether or not a breast lift (mastopexy) surgery impacts breastfeeding can depend somewhat on the surgeon’s technique and the issues being addressed.

If you’re concerned about the risk that surgery may interfere with breastfeeding in the future, make sure to bring this up with Dr Cope in your consultation.

Q: What is the best scar management procedure following my breast reduction mammoplasty surgery?

A: After your breast reduction (mammoplasty), Dr Charles Cope may recommend non-invasive scar treatments like micropore tape, hyperfix or silicone sheets. Massage can also be a good way to settle the prominence of scars.

If the scars remain large or raised and further treatment is needed, you may seek profractional laser resurfacing, which is performed weekly for 4 weeks.

In all cases, the only way to determine what is ‘best’ for you is to discuss your scar-management needs with a professional like Dr Cope. You are welcome to discuss scar treatments before your procedure so you’re aware of what you might expect post-surgery.

Who is breast reduction (mammoplasty) for?

Every woman’s body is different, and some women have naturally large breasts. And in some cases, large breasts may become an issue, whether cosmetic, practical, or health-related.

For example, women with very large breasts may experience:

- Discomfort due to carrying excess weight
- Back pain, neck pain, and postural issues
- Difficulty exercising
- Skin chafing, irritation, or infections
- General dissatisfaction with the size of their breasts

Your first step to this procedure is a consultation with Dr Charles Cope. Dr Cope is experienced in performing breast reduction mammoplasty, tailored for the needs of individual patients.

Facelift (rhytidectomy) and neck lift (platysmaplasty) are two similar but distinct procedures.

Sometimes, these procedures are performed together for patients who want a more dramatic change or have a lot of facial laxity.

A facelift (rhytidectomy) normally focuses on the lower two-thirds of the face, including the:

- Cheeks
- Jawline
- Nasolabial folds

If the surgery is combined with a platysmaplasty or neck lift, this allows the surgeon to also remove excess neck skin. A combined procedure may be useful for patients with visible facial ageing who want more definition in the lower face and jawline.

See if you’re a good candidate by discussing your surgical goals with Dr Charles Cope!

Abdominoplasty (sometimes called a ‘Tummy Tuck’) is for both men and women. However, men and women may have different reasons for seeking the procedure.

Both men and women can seek abdominoplasty after weight loss, to remove excess skin and fat tissue that resists lifestyle changes. But women may also seek the procedure after pregnancy, as part of their ‘Post-Partum Surgery.’

Post-Partum Surgery may include a combined procedure: abdominoplasty and breast surgery such as augmentation (mammoplasty) or lift (mastopexy). Mothers are advised to wait until they are finished having children before seeking post-pregnancy surgery.

If you are interested in abdominoplasty, whether after weight loss or pregnancy, consult with Dr Cope to discuss your personalised plan!

Cosmetic surgery doesn’t help you lose weight. However, it can help get rid of loose skin post-weight loss.

So, what is post-weight-loss surgery?

It’s a combination of procedures, all tailored to remove excess skin in the patient’s desired areas. The exact surgeries involved depend on the patient, but they can include:

- Abdominoplasty
- Body lift (belt lipectomy)
- Breast lift (mastopexy)
- Arm lift (brachioplasty)
- Thigh lift (thighplasty)
- Liposuction

Dr Charles Cope consults with his patients to determine which procedure (or procedures) works well for them. To find out if you’re a candidate for any of these post-weight-loss surgeries, get in touch for a private consultation!

Q: Can I transfer fat to my loose buttocks during my abdominal surgery?

A: If you are a good candidate, yes. This procedure is called a buttocks lift using fat transfer (sometimes known as a bilateral buttocks augmentation).

The procedure is usually best for patients with a small amount of loose skin on the buttocks. Dr Cope grafts fat from an area of the body (this can be done during an abdominal surgery) and transfers the fat to an area where the patient desires more volume.

This aims to increase volume (augment) the buttock area with the patient’s natural fat tissue.

Abdominoplasty is a life-changing decision that usually involves a lot of thought. Patients who get this surgery often desire to remove skin or fat from the abdomen but struggle to do this naturally.

After weight loss, weight gain, pregnancy, or ageing, it’s not always possible to shrink the abdomen with diet and exercise. Fat pockets can be hard to reduce, and excess skin may remain no matter what you do.

If this sounds like you, you might have wondered whether abdominoplasty surgery is right for you. Is it worth it? Do the benefits outweigh the risks?

Ultimately, only you can answer these questions. But it can help to discuss your concerns with an experienced surgeon like Dr Cope. He can assess your situation, goals, and preferences, and make recommendations that are personalised to you.

Book your appointment to speak to a Specialist Plastic Surgeon about whether you’re a candidate for abdominoplasty!

Breast surgery and abdominal surgery are common, respectively. But for many patients, the two procedures can be performed together!

Why would a patient have two surgeries at once? Here are a few reasons:

1. Getting two separate surgeries means patients have to endure two different recovery periods. Getting both surgeries together means an overall shorter recovery time.
2. Separate recovery periods mean more time away from work and other activities.
3. Both surgeries target similar issues: loose skin after weight loss, ageing, or pregnancy.

Breast surgery can involve different approaches, such as augmentation (implants), reduction mammoplasty, or mastopexy (lift). Abdominoplasty can also be different for each patient, depending on how much tissue needs to be removed and whether the abdominal muscles require repair.

All these details can be discussed with Dr Cope in your personal consultation.

Q: How soon after childbirth can I undergo my postpartum surgery?

A: Postpartum surgery can involve either breast surgery, abdominal surgery, liposuction, or a combination. Since these are all invasive procedures, patients should have fully healed from childbirth before getting surgery.

We recommend waiting a minimum of 3 to 6 months. But ideally, it’s best to wait a year after having a child before getting postpartum surgery. Pregnancy and birth have many different effects on a woman’s body, so it’s best to wait until your body finishes healing and changing post-pregnancy.

If you’re still unsure how long to wait, you are welcome to consult with Dr Cope about an appropriate surgery timeline.
