How do sugary drinks affect your body?

A new study from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute found that while they can give you short-term boost, they could be doing underlying damage to your blood vessels.

Study participants consumed a can of soft drink at morning and afternoon tea and had their blood continuously sampled.

The researchers found two soft drinks a day is all it takes to give your pancreas a serious workout and could lead to people developing type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Australia acknowledges that some people with type 1 diabetes use sugary drinks in moderation to help them manage hypos.
