This Sunday, Courtney is lacing up for the Wagga 10k - running in honour of her tiny niece McKenzie, and raising vital funds for our NICU.

Born at just 23 weeks, McKenzie spent 9 precious days in the care of our dedicated NICU team. During that time, Courtney and her close-knit family surrounded McKenzie’s parents, Jess and Bryce, with love and support.

Now, they’re honouring her memory by helping other families facing similar journeys. 💜

We are deeply grateful for Courtney’s strength, compassion, and generosity.

Healthy Bodies + Healthy Minds = stronger communities 💪🏽

Our Malabar Midwives do more than care for mums and babies - they walk alongside Indigenous families every step of the way, building stronger, healthier futures together.

This NAIDOC Week, we’re proud to highlight Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds - a weekly gym and wellbeing program bringing together mums and bubs from our Malabar Midwives and Child and Family Health teams.

This incredible service is proud to be supported by Na Joomelah (the Tackling Indigenous Smoking team), the Equity & Prevention Service, and The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation. 💜

This NAIDOC Week, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which The Royal stands.

We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and honour the enduring strength, wisdom, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to women’s health and wellbeing.

Throughout the week we look forward to sharing stories from our incredible Malabar Midwifery team - a first-of-its-kind program grounded in cultural connection, care and community. 💜

Today our Equipment Showcase continued in the downstairs foyer — this time spotlighting the incredible care delivered in our Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). 💜👶

NICU nurses Ruth Jackson and Eloise Deibe walked us through a range of donor-funded equipment used every day in the unit — including the Super TORY® Advanced Newborn Patient Simulator, used to train clinical teams for high-risk scenarios; a monitor and stand for vital sign tracking; a BiliLux Phototherapy Unit for treating jaundice; and a Neo Cot that keeps our tiniest patients safe and warm.

Each item plays a critical role in ensuring the best possible outcomes for premature and critically unwell newborns. As Ruth and Eloise shared, this equipment not only helps save lives — it transforms the way care is delivered in the NICU.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors and fundraisers.

Today we kicked off our Equipment Showcase in the downstairs foyer, joined by Birth Unit midwives Grace and Georgia.

They walked us through two incredible pieces of equipment that have been fully funded by generous donations — a birth simulation doll used to train midwives and doctors, and one of 12 PANDA resuscitaires that provide warmth and breathing support to newborns during those first critical moments after birth.

As well as life-saving equipment, Grace and Georgia are passionate about improving the physiological birthing experience for women — with access to natural pain relief and relaxation tools like essential oils, diffusers, birthing balls and combs. These donor-funded comforts play a vital role in creating a calmer, more empowering birth experience.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors.

From life-saving clinical equipment to tools that support a woman’s comfort and wellbeing during labour, your support helps ensure women and babies at The Royal receive the very best — every step of the way. 💜👶

Ever wondered what it takes to keep a baby born as early as 22 weeks alive? It’s not just our incredible clinicians - it’s the life-saving equipment they rely on every day.

In this behind-the-scenes tour Senior Neonatologist, Dr. Srini Bolisetty, takes us inside the Newborn Intensive Care Unit - home to some of the sickest and tiniest babies in the state.

He explains how two life-saving pieces of equipment in particular - the ventilator and humidicrib - work around the clock to help fragile newborns breathe, grow, and survive outside the womb.

Thanks to generous donors, more than 80% of the NICU’s equipment has been funded through community support - helping save the lives of over 1,000 critically ill babies each year.

“We are all in this together… we can all be part of the team that enhances care for these babies to get the best outcome.” – Dr. Srini Bolisetty

Donate before June 30 and be part of the team that gives these little fighters the best possible start in life.💜
