Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA) is pleased to announce its new online Grandparents Support Group to provide information and support to this special group of people who want to know how to care for their child and grandchild during the eating disorder recovery journey.

Grandparents have a special relationship with their grandchildren and have the potential to play an influential role during recovery. We know that many do not know how to do this or how to support the family they care about so much.

EDFA's Grandparents Support Group will help grandparents to navigate this difficult time, steering them with advice on what to say and not to say, how to support their own child during this difficult period, and how to be one of the people that their beloved grandchild turns to when they feel they have nowhere else to go.

Meet other grandparents who are facing the same challenges and share tips, advice, and stories on how to be involved from a distance.

Perfectionism is a trait commonly associated with eating disorders, characterised by extremely high self-imposed standards, and the exertion of control to achieve them, despite adverse consequences.

However, we know that striving for 'perfect' often leads to a negative impact on self-worth, increased self-criticism and feelings of failure. 😔

🔎 Treating eating disorders related to perfectionism often involves identifying and addressing these underlying perfectionistic tendencies.

This EDV Community Webinar is will explore and aim to provide an understanding of Perfectionism. It is suitable for anyone currently experiencing or recovered from an eating disorder, carers and support people, and those in the general community who are wanting to learn more about this topic.

You can expect a balance of education and the opportunity for reflection, with a focus on the following:
✷ Defining Perfectionism
✷ Perfectionism and Eating Disorders
✷ The Paradox of Perfectionism
✷ Strategies to Manage Perfectionism

🗓️ When: Monday 9 September, 12pm - 1pm
💻 Where: online via Zoom
💸 Cost: free to attend

Research is essential in developing new and effective treatment tools for eating disorders. 📝

EDV has partnered with La Trobe University to undertake a research project around Guided Self-help Stepped Care Treatment for eating disorders. Participants in the study will receive no-cost treatment for eating disorders by guided self-help or cognitive behavioral therapy.

The study hopes to learn:
• Whether providing guided self-help in the first instance can increase access to eating disorder treatment
• How best to design a larger treatment program in a community service such as EDV

You may qualify for participation in the study if you:
• Are 18 years or over
• Are experiencing an eating disorder
• Have a BMI greater than 17.5kg/m2
• Are willing to have an assessment with your GP prior to and during participation
• Are medically stable

If you decide to take part in the research, you will be asked to:
• Undertake a series of pre-treatment screening interviews and questionnaires
• Have a medical assessment with your GP that may involve blood tests
• Be randomized to receive either guided self-help stepped care or cognitive behaviour therapy for eating disorders
• Attend face-to-face appointments at Eating Disorders Victoria in Abbotsford and via telehealth
• Complete a series of online questionnaires throughout treatment and at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months after treatment ends
