Good morning everyone! We are with Optus and like a lot of people today our connection is down. This is affecting phones, internet, and HICAPS/EFTPOS which is a bit of a pain.

If you leave a message we'll get back to you ASAP, and thanks to Edge Studio Hair for the borrowed WiFi!

Have you ever wondered about recycling old glasses and contact lenses?

Are you concerned about your old pre-loved glasses ending up in landfill, or about the use of plastics in daily contact lenses?

The good news is that there are many ways to recycle or repurpose your old glasses. And you might be surprised to learn how little plastic your contact lenses contain, and how suppliers are working on more sustainable solutions.

Here’s how:

This is a really good summary of blue light-blocking lenses. There are definitely people who find them comfortable to wear, especially migraine sufferers or people who are sensitive to glare from fluorescent lights, but you do not "need" them to stop you from going blind.

Blue-light glasses are supposed to protect your eyes from the damage caused by computer screens. Do they work?

Due to the current stay-at-home orders in force over Greater Sydney at the moment, You & Eye Optical is still only providing urgent, time-critical care. However, if you do have an issue that can't wait, we can help you. Optometrists and any support staff are classed as essential, and both of us live in areas of Sydney where we are allowed to travel to the city.

Over the time of this lockdown I've been in the practice about once per week, for urgent eye care, repairs, even postage. If you're having vision issues that need attention before the end of August, please call or email and I'll try to organise a time to help. If you live in the eight local government areas under stricter lockdown, I'll find you an option close to your home.

Seeking and receiving medical care is absolutely allowed under the current health orders, and if you do need urgent eye care we can provide that. Anything routine should be delayed until the lockdown is over, but if you have sudden onset of symptoms such as unusual vision loss, double vision, unexplained pain, please call me on 0402830563. I can give advice and/or arrange to come in and see you in the practice. This applies to broken glasses as well, not being able to see is an emergency!

If you need contact lenses re-ordered, we can probably do that remotely and have them posted straight to you, please either phone me or e-mail cathy@youandeye.com.au

We hope everyone is staying healthy, and we can see you soon!

Cathy and Vanessa

Ah, George....

Ah, George....

Myth - Squinting is bad for your eyes.
When you squint, you tend to be able to see a little bit better when you’re nearsighted. Something called the pinhole effect. So that could be how that myth got started. A parent might see their child squinting and then think that it was the squinting that actually caused the nearsightedness, but it was the opposite. The nearsightedness caused the squinting... and wrinkles ;-)
