COMMUNITY CONCERNED ABOUT NIGHT TIME FLIGHT PATH OVER SMBI - Airservices Aust Survey

If you are concerned about a new nighttime flight path over SMBI, please complete the survey below. The survey page will also take you to the fact sheet and map of flight paths. There are five flightpath options, and we are concerned about option 5. Have the map in front of you when you complete the survey.
You will need to indicate for each option whether you agree or disagree, with a brief reason why. Problems with option 5 raised at last night's community meeting included noise impact on local residents, Islands being very quiet with little night traffic, failure to reflect the future population of the Islands (20,000), impact on bird life, and health impact of particle contamination in exhausts.

GROWTH IN FLIGHTS NUMBERS AND NOISE
The importance of discussion on the proposal to direct existing night-time flights heading south over the SMBI and Redland Bay area needs to be considered within the context of forecast growth in airport activity.
By 2032, ready for the Olympics, there will be a new terminal at Brisbane Airport. Flight numbers are projected to almost double to 360,000 flights annually. See the graph for growth forecasts.
What has to be remembered is that the flight path planes are following now, are some distance from SMBI. Under Flightpath Option 5, they will be directly overhead, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. See the map for existing and proposed flight path options.
If we want to maintain the peace and amenity that has drawn us to SMBI and Redland Bay we need to ensure our voice is heard before a decision is made.
You can do this by
