Safer Internet Day – 10 February 2026

Supporting our community to stay safe, confident and connected online at One Door’s Pioneer Clubhouse

Navigating the online world is a big part of finding work, exploring volunteering opportunities, and building confidence. That’s why our Employment & Volunteering Hub has become such a valuable space for members.

Running every Friday from 9:30am–11:30am, the hub offers two relaxed one‑hour sessions where members can work on their employment or volunteering goals with support from our team. Whether it’s updating a resume, practising interview skills, searching for opportunities online, or exploring meaningful volunteer roles, we’re here to help every step of the way.

A big thank you to Clem, our student peer practitioner, who has created a fantastic collection of volunteering opportunities that will soon be available to members.

We also continue to offer Temporary Employment Positions (TEPs) in partnership with Dee Why and Warringah Mall libraries - providing supportive, flexible work environments for members ready to take that next step.

As we recognise Safer Internet Day, we’re proud to support our community to use the internet safely and confidently while working toward their employment and volunteering aspirations.

If this sounds like something you’d like to explore, we’d love to hear from you.

We're lucky that we often see how generosity and kindness can make a substantial difference to the people we support and the services we are able to provide.

Recently, a community member from Sydney's north made a very generous financial donation that helped the Pioneer Clubhouse purchase a new refrigerator. Read how the fridge is making a difference for Pioneer Clubhouse members and staff ⬇️

One Door Mental Health is starting the year with gratitude, connection and community. This week, we gathered for our One Door Breakfast on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, bringing together Illawarra Committee members, Wollongong staff and consumers to strengthen relationships and celebrate our shared achievements.

Our wonderful consumers, Paul and Yvonne, delivered beautiful speeches that highlighted the heart of our work and the power of collaboration. The partnership with our Illawarra Committee continues to be incredibly fruitful, and we’re grateful for their ongoing dedication.

We also took a moment to acknowledge the amazing support that helped us create our new sensory room, a space designed to offer comfort, regulation and calm for our community. The morning wrapped up with exciting conversations as we began planning together.

This gathering follows last year’s inspiring Neurodiversity Work Breakfast - One Door Clubhouse Illawarra, held on 19 November 2025, where connection, community spirit and meaningful conversations filled the room. Last year’s Neurodiversity and Mental Health in the Workplace Breakfast was a wonderful success, raising $60,000, with every dollar going directly to the Illawarra Clubhouse. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who attended and to our generous sponsors for making such an impact. These funds will continue to support the Illawarra Clubhouse.

We’re carrying that same energy into 2026 as we continue supporting mental health and building community across the Illawarra.

And we’re delighted to share some exciting news. Illawarra Clubhouse will be hosting its Open Day during Harmony Week on Friday 20th March, and everyone is invited to join our members for this special celebration. We are honoured to confirm that Lord Mayor for Wollongong, Tania Brown, State Member for Wollongong, The Hon. Paul Scully MP, and Federal Member for Cunningham, Ms. Alison Byrnes MP will be attending.

A wonderful year is already unfolding, and we can’t wait to share more with our community. Paul Scully MP Alison Byrnes MP Cr Tania Brown Illawarra Mercury Mind Australia

One Door Mental Health joins in today’s National Day of Mourning, to honour the victims and all those impacted by the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. We stand with the Jewish community and all who are impacted by this terrible attack and we share your grief.

We embrace the theme the Chabad Community in Bondi has chosen for this Day: ‘Light will win, a gathering of unity and remembrance’.

We join with communities of all faiths and backgrounds around Australia in rejecting violence and hatred and standing on the side of peace and compassion.

Every day at One Door we meet and work with people of all faiths and backgrounds whose daily acts of kindness and care for others are the bedrock that makes all our lives together possible and precious. That spirit will prevail and bring healing to us all.

Today we mourn with our staff and service users from the Jewish community as we try to process yesterday’s horrific events in Bondi.

The attack has been confirmed as a targeted terrorist attack on Australia’s Jewish community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, Australia’s Jewish community, the first responders, and everyone in Sydney and beyond. We are all impacted by this violation of the freedom we should all feel, to move around safely in the community and to come together to share our faith and traditions.

One Door Mental Health, part of Mind Australia, believes in inclusivity in all its forms and we reject all forms of racism, violence and antisemitism.

We know that our Jewish staff, service users and their families will be feeling the impact of this event deeply – and for many people, this may exacerbate existing wellbeing and mental health challenges. Please check in with loved ones, friends, family, colleagues and neighbours.

We encourage people who use One Door Mental Health services in New South Wales – and to Mind’s service users around Australia - to reach out to your support workers if you are struggling today.

Neurodiversity Work Breakfast - One Door Clubhouse Illawarra On Wednesday, 19th November 2025, the One Door Clubhouse Breakfast in Illawarra was filled with connection, inspiration and community spirit.

Keynote speaker Dr Amanda Mullin shared an engaging talk on What Neurodiversity Really Means, helping business leaders understand the importance of neurodiversity in workplaces and communities. The panel discussion brought together Dr Mullin, Eleanor Hayman, Jarreau Broadhurst and Scott Butler, who each offered unique perspectives on inclusion and lived experience.

We were privileged to hear from Denise Cu***ng, Acting CEO and Executive Director for Mind Australia, who closed the event by thanking our Committee members and sponsors. Her message of alignment and partnering opportunities was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when organisations and communities work together.

The breakfast also raised funds for the Illawarra Clubhouse, a safe and respectful space for people with lived experience of mental health challenges.

Our gratitude goes to the One Door Mental Health Illawarra Committee, whose dedication and fundraising efforts continue to ensure the Clubhouse remains open and accessible to everyone who needs it.

Why are people with psychosocial disability missing out? 🔍

Data from the Australian Psychosocial Alliance’s new Access Denied report shows people with psychosocial disability:
🟡 have decreasing rates of success when applying for and accessing NDIS support
🟡 experience lower overall satisfaction with the NDIS compared to other cohorts.

One Door Mental Health and the Australian Psychosocial Alliance is calling for a resolution of access issues for people with psychosocial disability, a new government-led working group, the creation of a dedicated psychosocial pathway within the NDIS, and an uplift of psychosocial disability capabilities within the NDIA.

The One Door Story

When one faces the challenges of mental illness, the sky darkens, the weather cools and no shelter can be found. Hope for recovery, for the future, for the community and for each other, can seem to fade. As you traverse the mental health landscape of help, advice, information, services, hospitals and research, it can feel like you are being blown in the wind. This journey can take you down dark alleys and over challenging peaks. What is needed on this journey are signs of hope. Signposts of brightness. Welcoming lights at the end of the road. And what better people to create these signs than those who have gone before you. Those who, for over 30 years, have pioneered paths, supported friends, provided direction and changed the landscape.

Those whose passion belongs in making the world a better place for people who live with a mental illness or care for someone with a mental illness. Those who have planted so many seeds of hope and recovery along the way, they have left a path lit by brightness for those coming after. Those who understand, and are waiting for you to arrive. Standing on the threshold are the people from One Door Mental Health – with information, education, advocacy and most importantly arms open with care and kindness. One Door through which to access a diverse mental health recovery community. A place where those living with mental illness, those caring for someone with a mental illness, and those advocating and supporting people with a mental illness come to share, so that you only have to make one journey. You’ll know where to find the people from One Door because their symbol of hope is the sunflower. For the sunflower turns towards the light; its bright petals unique, and its core bringing them together. When you see the sunflower along your journey, you’ll know that is where you’ll find expert advice and a whole community of people who have walked your path and who are ready to help you walk yours. The sunflower leads to One Door, a place of hope on your mental health journey.

Welcome.
