Ingenious Oz Project Our Quest: To inspire the ideas of a Nation

www.ingeniousoz.com.au This truth is, Australia is full of everyday Aussies doing ingenious things.

Ingenious Oz Project is an initiative to discover stories of everyday Australians who have implemented ingenious ideas that are making a difference to them, their businesses, their communities. Most people don’t think they are very creative and many people don’t think their ideas are of any value. Ingenious ideas can be found everywhere and on any level of our society and we want to celebrate that.

Ingenious Oz celebrate 11 years. Here are 3 things I've learned from the journey so far. LinkedIn prompted a work anniversary for me. Looking back it's been a wonderful inspiring journey.

In 2013 I headed off my motorcycle into regional and remote Australia to interview clever, ingenious Australians, people like you and I are doing amazing things. IOP has now become the research arm of my business.

Here's what I learned which now form the foundation of everything I do.

1. Innovation and success is a 'Game of Inches'
2. Successful people and organisations nurture a Growth Mindset
3. Be a 'Gap Hunter' not an 'Idea Hunter'

Before 'Ingenious' in 2005 I sold Absurd Entertainment and started Nigel Collin Creative, where I began my career speaking and facilitation. I tried to calculate how many events I have spoken at and it's difficult, but easily 2000 odd, all over the globe. Of value is what I learned during those 2000. I have sat in, listened to and helped facilitate countless strategy and business sessions. And I learned from each one. Again the same business truths emerge.

I am so grateful for everyone who supported me in the past and supports me now. Way too numerous to mention BUT you know who you are.

The power of shared knowledge:

In a world where the rapid pace of innovation often leaves us grappling with information overload, the story of FarmTable stands out as a beacon of collaborative wisdom and grassroots innovation in the Australian agricultural sector. It's an ingenious business that not only highlights the importance of shared knowledge but also underscores the transformative power of community in driving meaningful change.

As owner Rob Jennings describes, Farm Table is more than just an online platform; it's a vibrant community hub where the age-old tradition of sharing farmer wisdom meets the digital age. This initiative has created a safe haven for real-time discussions, learning, and problem-solving, transcending the boundaries of agricultural sectors and geographical locations.

At the heart of Farm Table's ethos lies the recognition that innovation in agriculture is not just about the next big technological breakthrough; it's about leveraging collective experience and knowledge. The platform embodies the idea that when a farmer in the remote reaches of Western Australia shares a novel solution to a pest problem, that insight can revolutionize practices in the vineyards of Victoria or the grain fields of Queensland.

It’s a vibrant example of the power of shared learning and knowledge in driving growth and innovation. This spirit of generosity and openness among primary producers is a testament to the sector's resilience and community-oriented nature.

The platform's commitment to curating and distilling vast amounts of information into digestible, relevant insights is perhaps one of its most significant contributions. In an era where misinformation can spread as rapidly as wildfire, Farm Table serves as a lighthouse, guiding the agricultural community towards trustworthy and actionable knowledge.

It is evident that Farm Table is more than just a clever initiative; it's a celebration of the human spirit, resilience, and the unwavering belief in the power of community. It's a reminder that in the vast and varied landscape of Australian agriculture, no one is alone. Whether it's dealing with the challenges of climate change, navigating the complexities of modern farming technologies, or simply sharing a laugh over the quirks of rural life, Farm Table stands as a testament to the strength found in unity.

In essence, Farm Table is not just connecting dots within the Australian agricultural industry; it's weaving a tapestry of shared experiences, wisdom, and innovation. It's a story of how the collective strength of a community can drive sustainable growth and transformation, not just in agriculture but in any field.

Quite simply, our brains get so full and we have so much to do that we stop seeing things clearly. It's like Benjamin Hoff said (in one of my favourite books 'The Tao of Pooh'). “An empty sort of mind is valuable for finding pearls because it can see what’s in front of it, and an overstuffed mind is unable to".

It's something I've seen through the interviews and the research done with 'Ingenious Oz Project' that successful individuals and organisations understand the value of living themselves and their people time and space to, nurture a growth mindset, think and see things clearly, and drive sustainable growth.

If you want some ideas or gain some insights from ingenious others, into how this can be done, reach out. I'm always up for a chat.

This is cool. This is the very room where the idea for ‘ingenious Oz Project’ came to me about 12 years ago

Australia is a very clever Nation. 5 years ago, this month, Bradley Foster and I headed off to discover stories of grassroots innovation making a difference. (part of Ingenious Oz Project, established in 2013). So we thought we'd relive the stories because the lessons they hold still pack a punch.

Btw. IOP will be on the road again in November through Western NSW with a focus on grassroots innovation for sustainability.

Our first stop in 2018 was Sanctuary World Nature Centre Watch the video for the full story.
