Many adults can go 5–6 days without speaking to anyone.
It’s a quiet truth behind what’s now being called a loneliness epidemic and it’s not just affecting older people. Midlife can be just as isolating, as work, caregiving, and daily demands slowly replace meaningful connection.
The cost is real: higher stress, poorer health, and a sense of disconnection that’s easy to ignore but hard to shake.
At Rosedale, we believe health isn’t just about treating illness - it’s about strengthening the social bonds that keep us well. If you’ve been feeling isolated, reach out.
Book that catch-up.
Start the conversation.
Your health will thank you.
🧡 Loneliness Awareness Week – 4–10 August
This week we shine a light on a growing health issue that often goes unseen - loneliness. It doesn’t just affect how we feel, it can impact our physical health, mental wellbeing, and even how long we live.
📊 Did you know?
• 1 in 4 Australians feel lonely at least once a week
• 1 in 7 young people (16–25 years) report chronic loneliness
• 2 million older Australians over 50 are likely to experience loneliness this year
• Many older adults can go 5–6 days a week without speaking to anyone
Loneliness is now considered as dangerous to your health as smoking or obesity. It increases the risk of anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, dementia, poor sleep and even early death.
Pharmacists are now playing a role in social prescribing, that means recognising signs of loneliness and helping connect people to social groups, volunteering, local events or wellbeing programs.
Sometimes it starts with a conversation across the counter but it can lead to real change. We’ve seen how connection can improve someone’s mood, confidence and even their physical health.
🫶 Whether it’s checking in on a neighbour, inviting someone for a coffee, or simply saying hello, small moments really do matter.
Let’s work together to build a more connected and compassionate community.
