Welcome Back, Dr Gareth Mason - Currently Bulk Billing While He Gets Started ✅

Here’s a story we love telling.

Years ago, a medical student named Gareth spent time with us at Rosedale, learning what it truly means to care for families in a community practice.

Today, Dr Gareth Mason has returned as our GP Registrar - and he’s currently bulk billing all patients while he gets started.

Since his time with us, Dr Mason:

🏅 Graduated with the University Medal from Macquarie University (2022) - top of his medical cohort
🏥 Gained experience across Western and Northern Sydney hospitals
💚 Chosen to return to Rosedale to complete his GP training

Dr Mason’s areas of special interest:

• Paediatrics & children’s health
• Chronic disease management
• Sexual health & LGBTQIA+ care
• PrEP prescribing
• Minor procedures
• General medicine

He’s passionate about using technology to improve healthcare accessibility and supporting patients from all walks of life.

This is exactly the kind of thoughtful growth we’ve been working on this January - bringing back exceptional doctors who understand our community and can increase access to quality care.

Dr Mason is accepting new patients now.

Can menopause really start at any age?

Symptoms can begin earlier than many people expect, sometimes years before periods stop.

That’s why having the right guidance matters.

Dr Natasha Paul brings many years of experience in menopause care, including work with the Australian Menopause Centre, and provides comprehensive menopause health assessments tailored to each woman’s stage, symptoms, and health history.

Menopause isn’t one-size-fits-all.
And you don’t need to “wait it out” or second-guess what’s normal.

If symptoms are affecting your sleep, mood, energy, or quality of life — support and evidence-based options are available.

📞 Book an appointment to talk it through properly.

Do I really need to fast for blood tests?

For most routine blood tests, fasting is no longer required.

Modern pathology testing means many checks — including cholesterol, thyroid, kidney and liver function — can be done accurately without fasting.

If fasting is needed, your GP will tell you clearly.
If you weren’t specifically told to fast, it’s usually okay not to.

Small changes like this can make care simpler, more convenient, and easier to follow through.

Trust works both ways.

You trust us with your health.
And part of good care is us learning to trust you too.

If you’re asking for a routine script or a referral you’ve had before, that usually means:
• You know your condition
• You know what’s been agreed
• You know what you need next

And that matters.

At Rosedale, routine requests for scripts and referrals are available around the clock — because healthcare works best when trust flows both ways, not just one.

This isn’t about shortcuts.
It’s about continuity, respect, and systems that recognise real life.

Some things don’t need to be hard.
They just need to work.

TLDR: prunes great for constipation but high FODMAP - an issue for som.

Kiwifruit low FODMAP, great for constipation.

Follow our wonderful dietitian / nutritionist Mary-Anne for more helpful tips.

It was shown that prunes showed the greatest improvement in stool frequency out of the three groups assessed. Participants in both the kiwifruit and prune groups also demonstrated greater changes in stool consistently compared to psyllium. All three groups also reported improvements in straining between baseline and weeks 3 to 4 of treatment.

In conclusion, kiwifruit appears to be a safe and preferred method for treating chronic constipation, as it is low FODMAP and high in vitamin C and fibre. Psyllium husk is also useful, although some participants reported bloating and distension. Prunes may also benefit constipation but they are high in both fibre and sorbitol, therefore making them high FODMAP. Therefore, kiwifruit may be a better first choice for symptom relief in people with IBS-C.
