Today, we officially reached ‘Practical Completion’ of our Perich Centre for Robotics & Health Technology — and it looks incredible.

We’re so grateful to everyone who has played a part in bringing this vision to life. Thanks to your skill, commitment and teamwork, this milestone project was delivered seamlessly — a testament to what can be achieved together.

This project is the realisation of our vision for health equity through health technology, made achievable through the heartfelt generosity of the Perich Family. The Centre will open new doors in medical R&D and health innovation — right here in South Western Sydney.

Now the exciting part begins.

A cutting-edge clinical trial at Liverpool Hospital is testing the safety and effectiveness of robot-assisted heart procedures to help clinicians perform procedures in better conditions.

This clinical trial is comparing robotic-assisted stent insertion, or Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), with traditional manual procedures.

This life-saving procedure clears blockages associated with coronary heart disease, a leading cause of death in Australia accounting for more than one in 10 deaths.

Professor Craig Juergens and Dr James Leung, from Ingham Institute’s Cardiology Group appeared on Channel 9 speaking about this groundbreaking trial. Watch it here: https://www.9news.com.au/national/robot-used-in-heart-attack-procedure-in-world-first/5d095ec8-d0d8-4213-818e-11d609ea031b

🔬 Recently, South Western Sydney high school students from Mt Annan swapped the classroom for the lab at Ingham Institute as part of the AREA (Animal Research Education and Awareness) program - diving into the world of medical research!

We were delighted to also welcome a special guest from the NSW Department of Education who wrote an article about the visit, helping to shine a light on hands-on learning and the exciting future of health and medical careers.

The STEM program opens young minds to the many careers in health beyond the usual pathways, and gives students insight into life saving research.

Alison Richards, our Biological Resources Manager, says it's all about sparking curiosity and showing students what's possible:
🧪 “We give them a chance to think about their next steps and experience first-hand what biomedical research really looks like.”

Students got to see science in action and imagine their own potential future in health and medical science.

❤️ Cancer is tough. But it’s even tougher when the odds are stacked against you.

Right now, too many Australians are missing out on life-saving cancer care - not because they don’t need it, but because of where they live, what they earn, or the language they speak.

That’s not fair. And it’s not something we’re willing to accept.

At the Australian Centre for Cancer Equity, based at Ingham Institute, we’re working to change this - so every person, in every community, gets the care they deserve.

Your support drives the research that brings hope closer to home for every Australian facing cancer.
💛 Together, we can make sure no one faces cancer without the care they deserve.

Yesterday, following our board meeting, our board members had the opportunity to tour the Perich Centre and witness firsthand the amazing progress being made.

Our board members were inspired by the innovations underway and the potential they hold for promoting health equity through cutting-edge technology.

We're looking forward to the Centre's completion in just a few weeks' time, and the positive impact it will have in transforming healthcare in the South Western Sydney community and beyond.

Today we mark World Preeclampsia Day. Professor Jon Hyett explains how his team is working to improve screening for preeclampsia.

"The obstetric research group are actively engaged in improving access to first trimester (11-13 weeks of pregnancy) screening for preeclampsia across the South Western Sydney local health district. We are demonstrating the value of this service that enables early engagement with our community and improves outcomes for both mothers and babies.

We are working on new lab tests that improve screening performance - which will also provide more reassurance for the majority of women that we meet. We are also examining how the service is reducing rates of fetal growth restriction and other causes of preterm delivery."

Today is International Clinical Trials Day! We proudly celebrate the clinical trials currently underway across the South Western Sydney region.

In partnership with South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), Ingham Institute supports and facilitates over 200 active clinical trials across a broad range of therapeutic areas.

These trials are essential for advancing medical knowledge, developing new treatments, and improving how we prevent, diagnose, and manage a wide range of health conditions.

At the heart of every breakthrough are the patients who generously volunteer to take part in clinical trials - we are deeply grateful for their contributions and participation.

Together, we’re shaping the future of healthcare - one trial at a time!

One Institute, multiple sites – each strategically placed to enable rapid research translation.

Since 2008, Ingham Institute’s research has targeted the unique needs of South Western Sydney’s 1.2m population. Our researchers pioneer translational research to achieve global health equity.

Our opportunity for impact is expanding! In just a few months, our second site – Ingham Institute Macarthur – will complete construction.

Ingham Institute Macarthur is a collaboration with our closest partners – SWSLHD, UNSW Sydney and WSU – a strategic grouping that combines academic rigour with an avenue for its rapid translation. The Centre is located between WSU’s Clinical School and the new Campbelltown Hospital – and linked to both via footbridge.

In line with our mission, research focus will target conditions of greatest prevalence for the Macarthur community – diabetes, mental health, indigenous health, paediatrics / child wellbeing and addiction medicine.

Watch this space to learn more about our integrated model, systematising research as part of everyday clinical care.
