Huge thank you to the Australian Music Therapy Association conference committee for the wonderful 50th anniversary conference in Melbourne and for inviting me to be part of the Practice Wisdom panel. It was such a precious experience, and I was deeply honoured to share the panel with Australia’s iconic music therapists with kind hearts and deep wisdom — Dr Denise Grocke, Dr Clare O’Callaghan, and Catherine Threlfall.

I was also so glad to introduce the unforgettable and inspiring work of our beloved late mentor, Robin Howat, founder of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy course in Australia. His spirit and music continue to live on in all of us.

I’m honoured to have been invited as one of the panelists for a spotlight panel at the upcoming Australian Music Therapy Association 50th anniversary conference this month! The topic is ‘Practice Wisdom in Music Therapy’, moderated by Dr. Denise Grocke, a legendary pioneer of music therapy in Australia. I hope my experience for 20 years in Australia (+5 years in Japan) exploring the theory and practice of music therapy will add a unique perspective to the discussion. I’ve given many conference presentations before, but this will be my first time on a panel. I’m honestly a bit nervous, but will just be myself and enjoy celebrating this milestone in our profession! 🎉✨

Yesterday, our Community Band was invited to an aged care facility to give a concert. We prepared a program mainly with familiar songs for the residents, mixed with instrumental pieces and two Japanese songs. We received feedback that they were delighted to hear the songs they knew, as it brought back old memories. At the concert, they began humming along, playing percussion instruments, and even blowing bubbles during the song, “I’m forever blowing bubbles”. It was a warm and special time of music together🥰 Music is wonderful✨

We attended the Hornsby Disability Expo today and hosted our stall. It was wonderful to meet and talk with people interested in music therapy and art therapy, as well as to connect with other allied health and disability support providers. We also had conversations with some of them about our current climate with the NDIS (interestingly, the NDIS stall was right next to ours…).
The event was a great opportunity for us to refresh our thoughts and update our brochure and other materials too!

Sorry for not updating over the past couple of months! I was overseas and then down with nasty bronchitis, as some of you may know😷 I’m finally back at work, and I have some exciting news—our entrance door and windows now have beautiful new signage!💜
The team at Minuteman Press St Leonards did an excellent job—I highly recommend them. I just love how the signage looks on the glass!🎶

We’ve been invited to perform Japanese songs at a cross-cultural event at the Pioneer Theatre in Castle Hill, organised by Hills Community Aid, this Wednesday morning.
It was a last-minute request, so only a small group of us could join — a few members from our Community Band, a student, and a support worker have come together to form a performing group.
We’ll be playing 3 Japanese songs. The event is already sold out, so unfortunately we can’t invite you — but we'll share some photos and videos afterwards♪

Staff gathering at our new venue last night! It’s been taking a long time to set up our new space, but we finally had all our staff together to brainstorm the future of Musical Between. This marks the beginning of our exciting new chapter!

Various food was brought to share that is called Mochiyori in Japan. It was a yummy, warm and fruitful night. Musical Between is so lucky to have such a wonderful team. Just share our potential new catch copy we came up with yesterday - “I and You make We as One - Musical Between” 💜

🌟 Let us introduce our new prac student, Anuk, from the Creative Music Therapy course at Western Sydney University for this semester. Anuk is an international student from Mongolia. She was a girl dreaming of becoming a singer and at the last year of high school, she won first prize in the Japan Song Contest, hosted by the Japanese Embassy. However, she chose a different path and studied medicine, becoming a doctor. Now 10 years later, Anuk has decided to return to her original dream—this time, with a new vision. She’s studying to become a music therapist, hoping to combine her medical background with her passion for music. Her goal is to pioneer music therapy in Mongolia in the near future!👏✨
