Castor oil for hair growth - natural, popular, and heavily promoted online… but the scientific evidence just isn’t there.
While castor oil (rich in ricinoleic acid) can help condition the hair shaft, improve shine, and support scalp comfort, there are currently no robust clinical studies showing it regrows hair or treats androgenetic alopecia. Most dermatology literature points toward moisturising and anti-inflammatory benefits rather than true follicle stimulation.
It’s also worth noting that very thick oils can sometimes lead to scalp buildup, irritation, or delayed diagnosis if they replace evidence-based treatments. In progressive hair loss conditions, early intervention is often key.
If you enjoy using castor oil as a conditioner - completely reasonable. Just keep expectations realistic and don’t rely on it as a primary hair restoration strategy.
If hair loss is a concern, evidence-supported options (depending on your diagnosis) may include medical therapies, light-based treatments, or personalised clinical protocols.
Hair science over hype, always.
