Feel free to share this: You Booze, You Don’t Lose

It’s no secret that alcohol lowers your inhibitions and impairs your ability to make rational decisions. The most dangerous effect that drinking can have on getting in shape is not the alcohol itself but the intoxication that comes with it.

It’s an all-too-familiar story: You spend all week carefully monitoring your diet and making good choices, and come Friday night you have a few drinks and next thing you know you’re going face-first into a plate of salty snacks (so long, diet).

And lest we forget, alcohol itself contains calories (7 per gram, which is less than fat but more than carbs and protein). A shot of clear liquor will run you about 80 to 90 calories on average, while fruity drinks or heavy beers like IPAs can exceed 200.

Further, people eat about 30 percent more food when they consume alcohol, possibly because alcohol interferes with satiety or simply because it makes your judgment fuzzier about whether or not you should now order the cheese platter or get a kebab on the way home.

WHEN ALCOHOL IS IN YOUR SYSTEM, IT'S HARDER FOR YOUR BODY TO BURN THE FAT THAT IS ALREADY THERE.

Alcohol is a major metabolism enemy. Once alcohol enters the body, our metabolism immediately begins using that as fuel. This means our body stops metabolising other fuel sources which can lead to increased fat storage.

While committed to a plan like The 1:1 Diet you have to ask yourself, after so many days of hard work, is it worth it?

Confident in my own skin

“My whole life I have been overweight, the girl who was always "carrying a little extra". In primary school I had very few friends and I attended a sports high school where I was surrounded by fit teenagers. Being overweight in that environment made me an easy target for bullying and teasing. I would always try to brush off the comments but I was deeply affected by them. I would try to stay active and eat healthily but if I didn't see immediate results I would give up.

My weight loss journey with The 1:1 Diet began after having my children. With two children under 2, my body had been through a lot, including a C-section birth which left me with a "mum tum". At this point I was 93kg, feeling overwhelmed and I began to suffer from depression. I would comfort eat and my “go-to” was always chocolate, fast food and at least three cans of Coke a day.

My eating habits had spiralled out of control making me even more depressed and withdrawn. I didn't want to leave the house or attend family events because I hated what I looked like. Coming from an indigenous background, I knew my risk of diabetes and other health issues were higher and I needed to make a change.

My Consultant is my neighbour, and I would see the incredible changes in her clients posted on social media. I had no idea what I was in for but was ready.

As soon as the first week was done and I had lost an amazing 3kg. With Rachael's unwavering support and guidance, even during the lockdown, I was able to shift a lifetime of weight and become happier, healthier and confident in my own skin.

The 1:1 Diet was so easy to follow, and I love the fact that it has steps that I will be able to continue using for a lifetime of healthy and controlled eating.

This medically and nutritionally based plan made me feel safe and has given me lifelong tools to keep my weight healthy. The range of products is fantastic and keeps you interested and satisfied. It never actually felt like I was on a diet.

I asked her what she specifically did this week. Her reply was one I hear often when people have a great week
“I just did it, I followed the plan properly”
I love it when people realize just how well this works if they commit 100%.

Oh this is just so true! I have many clients who come to me wondering why they are still overweight even after working out with a personal trainer or at the gym. It all really starts with what you put into your mouth! Be mindful, stay on plan and don’t let food control you. Clean up your diet. Then you can workout and feel the real benefits of fitness and good nutrition!

Choose wisely, be mindful, sneak a tiny egg in if you really want to but remember not to go overboard. No one wants to feel awful about their decisions next week.
