October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I’m Ruth Cho, McGrath Foundation Breast Cancer Care Nurse, based at Macquarie University Hospital. Every day, I have the privilege of supporting patients and their families as they navigate breast cancer - from diagnosis to treatment. My role is to provide emotional and practical support, help coordinate care across our multidisciplinary team, and ensure every patient has access to the right resources at every stage of their journey. Our comprehensive breast cancer services include advanced imaging, surgical treatment, oncology, and a wide range of support services – all under one roof. Together, we’re committed to delivering patient-centred care that combines compassion with clinical excellence. Let’s continue to raise awareness and support those affected by breast cancer, because early detection and holistic care make all the difference.

World Physiotherapy Day, celebrated on 8 September, was established in 1996 to recognise the work physiotherapists do for their patients and communities and mark the unity and solidarity of the global physiotherapy profession.

We are delighted to take this opportunity to celebrate our extraordinary physiotherapists – people whose compassion, skill and commitment transform people’s lives every day.

At Macquarie University Health, we bring together clinical care, education, and research. Physiotherapist Bec Sampson is a powerful example - combining evidence-based care with family-centred support to help children achieve milestones once thought impossible. For Bec, physiotherapy is “a joy and a privilege” and through her work with families, she shows the real impact our people can make.

Here’s to Bec and our whole physiotherapy team, working side by side with patients and families to make every step count.

At Macquarie University Hospital, our nurses are bringing colour and personality to patient care every Friday with themed scrubs, from superheroes to florals, marine creatures to galaxies.

It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the incredible team spirit across our hospital and thank our nurses for the compassion, energy, and warmth they bring to every shift.

Because a little fun goes a long way in lifting spirits, starting conversations, and showing our patients that care comes with heart.
