You get to choose what continues and what leaves.

After sharing that story about my ancestor…
I’ve actually just been sitting with it a bit.

Because it got me thinking about what really gets passed down.

And it’s not just stories.

It’s how people experienced life.
Loss. Change. Things not working out the way they were meant to.

And that does something.

It changes how safety is felt.
How stability is understood.

And then somehow… that carries.

Not in a really obvious way.
But in the way we move through things now.

You might show up as:

– expecting things to fall apart
– not quite trusting things will last
– holding onto what you have
– or never really feeling settled, even when things are okay

And sometimes it doesn’t even make sense.

Like… nothing in your life has created that feeling.

But it’s still there.

And I think that’s the part that’s easy to miss.

That some of what we’re responding to
didn’t actually begin with us.

It began in moments where something shifted for the people before us.
Where something was lost, or taken, or changed.

And that experience… doesn’t just disappear.

It gets carried.

Not as a story you can always point to.
But as a pattern you end up living.

And when you start to see that…

There’s a bit more space.

To question it.
To soften it.
To realise not all of it is actually yours
