A fall protection system only protects if it is used in the correct manner.

When it comes to roof anchor systems, workers need to make sure they are connecting to the correct anchor in the correct order. In doing so, they can use fall restraint technique to mitigate the risk of a fall occurring in the first place.

What does that mean? This guide is here to explain: https://heightsafety.net/news/using-a-roof-anchor-fall-protection-system/

Like carabiners, different types of hook work best in different areas and for different purposes.

Flick through to see what the common types used in fall protection are, and what they can be used for.

When using a anchor-based fall protection system it is important to make sure that your rigging does not overload an anchor.

This can occur mainly when diverting. Mitigating this is as easy as applying a re-anchoring technique to reduce the potential load should a fall occur.

Read up more on how it all works here: https://heightsafety.net/news/diversion-anchors-and-re-anchoring-techniques/

Diversion anchors and re-anchoring are two important parts of using common fall protection systems.

A rope line and carabiners is the most effective way to use a roof anchor fall protection system.

But what if you have a twin-tail lanyard? How would that work?

If you flick through you will find out.

A word of warning though - this technique is only compliant as long as the length of your lanyard's tail and the anchor point layout is such that the user remains within the bounds of fall restraint technique. Which is just another reason why an adjustable rope line is the way to go.

What do the different types of carabiner look like? How do they work?

Flick through and take a look. And check out our website to see if you have the right ones you need for the work you are doing. We published a blog post recently that goes into the details.

The theme for this year's World FM Day event is "cultivating belonging through build environments".

And this is important. The operation, along with the design and construction, of the places where we live and work plays a critical role in how we function as a society. Without care and consideration, there are real world harms - physical, psychological, and social - that can impact people.

For us at Height Safety Engineers, we work very much on the physical side of things. Partnering with facility managers across a range portfolios from education, health, aged care, commercial and industrial, we see the work they do to make sure the often-unseen maintenance and repair work is completed safely.

We look forward to continuing to partner with FMs across Australia to help workers stay protected.

Tagging an anchor point isn't a requirement of a fall protection system, but they are becoming increasingly common.

Back in the day, the only tag you would ever see on an anchor point would be a red one. And that would mean the anchor point is not safe to use.

Today, anchor tags are also placed on compliant and safe anchors. These tags can show different types of information depending on who placed it.

On the HSE blog today, we look at what information is typically found on an anchor tag.

Not all carabiners and connectors are created equal.

When it comes to fall protection, having the correct equipment with you is vitally important.

Our team of experts look at the different types of carabiner and hook to help you decide which of the many different types is needed for the work your team is doing.
