Prescribing assistive technology (AT) for children brings unique challenges. Unlike adults, children are always growing and changing, which means their equipment must adapt with them, their families, and their environments. A simple “shrink it down” approach doesn’t work.

This interactive workshop at GTK Brisbane is designed for occupational therapists and physiotherapists working with children with moderate to complex needs. Together we’ll explore:

✔️ Identifying the underlying problem we’re trying to solve
✔️ A problem-solving approach to prescribing paediatric AT
✔️ Evaluating options to ensure the best match between child, family, and environment

Through case studies and hands-on practice with equipment such as manual wheelchairs, seating and activity chairs, strollers, walkers, standers, and car seats, participants will gain practical strategies they can apply immediately in their work. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with stronger clinical reasoning skills, greater confidence, and a toolkit of approaches to support children to live, learn, and participate in ways that matter most.

Join us this Saturday 16th August at PCYC Northern Beaches for an afternoon of wheelchair basketball as part of the 2025 GTK Waratah Wheelchair League Powered by Wilson.

A couple of games will tip off from 1pm, showcasing fast, physical, and high-energy action from some of the league’s top athletes.

🛠️ The GTK Service Centre will also be on site, supporting players with on-the-spot repairs and adjustments to keep chairs in peak condition.

Come down, bring some friends, and catch some incredible sport on the beaches!
