๐ŸŽ“ JOIN US TOMORROW EVENING โ€“ LIVE FEBRUARY CLINICAL WEBINAR! ๐ŸŒŸ
What does the gut microbiome actually need to recover โ€” and which bacteria truly matter?
Join this live, clinical webinar with naturopath, nutritionist, and herbalist Dan Sipple, as he translates emerging human microbiome research into practical clinical strategies. This session explores keystone and beneficial bacteria, SCFAs, polyphenols, fibre, resistant starch, and lifestyle factors that shape gut integrity, immune regulation, and metabolic health.
Designed for clinicians seeking clarity and clinical nuance, this webinar integrates current evidence with real-world application. Learn how to strategically use fibres, polyphenols, and resistant starch โ€” and
when to modify or pause these interventions โ€” to support personalised gut and metabolic care without symptom aggravation.
In this session, youโ€™ll learn how to:
โœ… Identify clinically relevant gut bacteria and their key functions.
โœ… Use fibres, polyphenols, and resistant starch with precision.
โœ… Understand SCFAs as critical drivers of gut and metabolic health.
โœ… Apply lifestyle strategies that support long-term microbial resilience.
Join us live to engage in interactive discussion and an in-depth Q&A session.

๐Ÿ“ ๐ŸŒฝ ๐ŸŒพ As we continue to advocate for optimal wellness, itโ€™s crucial to address the pervasive issue of glyphosate in our food supply. This widely used herbicide is found in concerning levels in many common foods, particularly oat-based products, wheat, corn, and soy. Recent studies have shown that glyphosate can potentially disrupt gut bacteria, leading to a cascade of health issues for our clients.
As health practitioners, we have a unique opportunity to educate and guide our patients towards healthier choices. Recommending organic produce, glyphosate-free certified products and clean foods can significantly reduce exposure. Additionally, supporting detoxification pathways through targeted nutrition and supplementation may help mitigate the effects of unavoidable exposure.

This week on Wellness by Designs:
๐Ÿง  ๐Ÿ’ช Want your patientsโ€™ brains to feel younger for longer?
In this episode, chiropractor and naturopath Damien Kristof shares a practitioner-led approach to neuro longevity โ€” less hacks, more hierarchy. Heal the nervous system first, remove interference, and let the body do what itโ€™s designed to do.
Drawing on decades in practice and insights from Blue Zones like Icaria and Sardinia, we explore why purpose, community, and natural daily movement consistently outperform extremes โ€” and why the โ€œunsexyโ€ fundamentals (adequate protein, fibre-rich colourful plants, stable blood sugar) remain foundational for mitochondrial and inflammatory balance.
We unpack seven pillars of health span, and discuss how social connection, nervous system regulation, and habit-first care shape better ageing outcomes.
Clinically, Damien reframes nutrients as messengers and building blocks, highlights the value of 90-day trend tracking, shares practical strategies to support vagal tone, and explores targeted options for wired-tired states โ€” including emerging research on saffron for mood and neuroinflammatory support.

๐ŸŒŸ Weโ€™re proud to sponsor Re:Formulate 2026! โ€” the first multidisciplinary, holistic health conference uniting our profession to reimagine patient care and build sustainable practices.

โ€œWe operate in a community, where practitioners need to lean on other modalities to improve their reach across the community. Exploring how to build your referral effect with being evidence led, is the cornerstone of long-term value for all practitioners.
Iโ€™m really looking forward to the session on shared care, as it shows how building the right referral networks keeps practitioners at the centre of patient care. Learning how to confidently communicate our value and work within structured referral models is vital for strengthening trust, collaboration, and long-term patient outcomes.
For us, being part of Re:Formulate is about more than sponsorship, itโ€™s about strengthening our community, encouraging innovation, and keeping science at the centre of natural medicine.โ€

13/02/2026

Insulin resistance is a a modern-day epidemic, with occurrence in up to 70% of obese women and up to 30-50% of lean women. Higher insulin levels are both a symptom and pathophysiological driver of many common health conditions seen today.
Over 1.3 million people in Australia were newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes between 2000 and 2021. This equates to around 60,000 people each year. When weโ€™re looking at the proportion of women, you have a subgroup with insulin resistance who present with PCOS, or polycystic ovarian syndrome. That represents, in Australia, about 8% to 13% of women, which is about 1 in 10 women.
The above dietary changes are the ideal way to begin your path of recovery and wellness.
Speak to your Integrative Practitioner if you have concerns about Insulin Resistance and PCOS.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ ๐Ÿšถ Catch Up on Wellness by Designs:
What if your gut symptoms arenโ€™t about what youโ€™re taking, but who youโ€™re feeding?
Gut change doesnโ€™t start with a supplement overhaul, it starts with the keystone species shaping your internal ecosystem. In this episode, functional naturopath Dan Sipple breaks down how foundational microbes influence gut barrier integrity, immune tolerance and metabolic health, and why the sequence of fibres, polyphenols and bile support matters more than the products themselves. We unpack butyrate and other short-chain fatty acids as the microbiomeโ€™s currency, driving inflammation control, insulin sensitivity and even brain signalling, and explore when direct butyrate, cross-feeding or strain-specific probiotics actually make sense.

This is a practical, phase-based conversation for IBS- and SIBO-prone guts: starting with low-aggravation polyphenols to stabilise the terrain, layering fibres as tolerance improves, and addressing bile acids as the often-missed link in constipation, fat maldigestion and hormonal transitions. If youโ€™ve cycled through fibres, probiotics or antimicrobials without durable results, this episode offers a strategy that sticks โ€” build the terrain first, protect keystone species, match inputs to the phase, and retest to confirm progress as SCFAs rise and inflammation falls.

๐Ÿ”Ž ๐Ÿง While we often focus on increasing short-chain fatty acids, the deeper question is:what is driving the fermentation pattern in the first place?
When proteolytic activity outpaces saccharolytic fermentation, the SCFA/BCFA ratio can reveal deeper patterns, from impaired digestion to inflammatory dysbiosis and metabolic imbalance.
Understanding the ratio means understanding the ecosystem.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Swipe through to explore what elevated BCFAs may be signalling clinically.

Keystone bacteria may appear in small numbers on a microbiome report โ€“ but their influence on gut integrity, immune signalling, and metabolic outcomes can be significant.
In practice, the challenge isnโ€™t just supporting these species.
