It's been a month since StepUp for Dementia Research founder Professor Yun-Hee Jeon appeared on Channel 9's Today Extra show with 60 Minutes Australia producer Serge Negus, to raise awareness for Australia's first Living with Dementia Survey.

The segment brought attention to Serge's own story of being impacted by the weight of dementia, as his father, the late George Negus, sadly passed away in 2023 after a decade of living with dementia. Serge has thought deeply about his father's care and what a survey like this can do to raise the standard of support in Australia.

If you are living with dementia or you care for someone who does, please sign up today to take part in the survey at stepupfordementiaresearch.org.au. Act today, to give hope tomorrow.

We're incredibly grateful that Nine.com.au's Dimity Clancey has chosen to partner with us to promote Australia's first Living with Dementia survey.

In a story captured beautifully by New Idea Magazine, Dimity talks about her own experience as a carer for her mother Lorraine, and the need for people impacted by dementia to have their voices heard.

If you are living with dementia, or you care for someone who lives with dementia, sign up today to take part in the landmark survey: www.stepupfordementiaresearch.org.au

Last week, StepUp for Dementia Research founder Professor Yun-Hee Jeon was at the Australian Dementia Research Forum in WA, to help spread the word about our innovative platform that helps researchers recruit volunteer participants for studies.

So far, StepUp for Dementia Research has provided volunteers for more than 141 research studies, paving the way for breakthroughs and better dementia care.

StepUp for Dementia Research ignites hope by connecting Australians living with dementia to groundbreaking research opportunities.

Please share with anyone you know who is living with dementia, or providing care and support to someone who is, and let them know to sign up today at stepupfordementiaresearch.org.au

🚀 Australia's first national Living with Dementia Survey opens this week!

The survey is seeking responses from 2,000 people living with dementia and 2,000 people that support someone living with dementia.

This is the first and largest survey of its kind in Australia, and StepUp for Dementia Research is proud to be helping to recruit participants for the study leaders at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare - AIHW and University of Canberra.

Giving people impacted by dementia a voice and a platform to express what they want and need in their care is incredibly powerful. In fact, it's vital to drive the change we need and deserve.

The survey will be used by the Australian Government, other policymakers and researchers to help improve the way we support people living with dementia.

Please share with anyone you know to spread the word about this vital research.

Anyone can sign up to be considered for the national survey via the StepUp for Dementia Research website at www.stepupfordementiaresearch.org.au

Professor Graeme Samuel AC is one of Australia's leading thinkers. Having experienced his mother Shirley's devastating 15-year dementia journey, Graeme has spent decades dedicating his brilliant mind to furthering dementia research and care.

We are pleased to have Graeme as a StepUp for Dementia Research ambassador, alongside his roles including 10 years as chair of Dementia Australia and continuing chair of the Dementia Australia Research Foundation and Australian Dementia Network. We thank him for his work helping us encourage people to sign up to StepUp for Dementia Research.

It's been almost 9 years since Imelda's husband Graham died with dementia. It was that devastating loss that spurred Imelda, from Helensburgh near Wollongong in NSW, into donating her time for dementia research.

Over the years, she's participated in everything from short surveys to longer in-depth interviews and more. In fact, Imelda was part of StepUp for Research's original founding team and continues to volunteer her time as a research participant in her husband's memory.

"My husband wanted to make a difference for people who would travel this dementia journey long after he was gone - my contribution of time and talent is his legacy," she says.

For Imelda, dementia research goes beyond headline breakthroughs.

"Of course (my hope is) that a genuine breakthrough will emerge, but also that researchers will remember that thousands of people can benefit if they discover ways to make the dementia journey easier, both for people with dementia and especially for their carers," she says.

Imelda is sharing her story to help encourage others to consider getting involved in dementia research via the StepUp for Research website. We currently have 47 studies recruiting for the participants they need to go ahead.

Please encourage people you know to sign up today at www.stepupfordementiaresearch.org.au
