✨ FEATURE FRIDAY - MEET JUDE ✨
This AAC Awareness Month, we're celebrating the incredible people in our community. Meet Jude!

Jude is 11 years old, deaf-blind with cochlear implants, and loves food, people, playing, and animals (especially hammerhead sharks! 🦈).

As a multimodal communicator, Jude uses tactile signs and speech. He's currently learning LAMP Words For Life® on an Accent 1000, using a tactile touchguide to help navigate the device.

Jude's favourite thing? Telling knock-knock jokes using pages imported from Unity! His mum says: "Jude loves using oral language, but because he is often not understood by unfamiliar people, he hopes that using the device will help him to connect better with everyone he meets."
What we love about Jude's story: Communication is about connection, and there are so many wonderful ways to make that happen! 💙

🚫 MYTH BUSTER MONDAY 🚫
As it’s AAC awareness month, we thought we’d take a moment to shine some awareness on the facts!

Myth: "AAC is only for people who can't speak at all"

❌ Not true! Not true! AAC is everywhere. AAC includes all communication beyond speech alone, and everyone uses AAC to communicate. Some people may use AAC more than others. Communication needs can change throughout the day, across environments, or over time.
Some people might use speech at home with family but need their device at school or work. Others might rely more on AAC when they're tired, stressed, or in noisy environments.

The reality? AAC supports communication for anyone who cannot rely on speech alone – and that includes more people than you might think! ✨
