If I wanted to clear acne naturally, I wouldn’t start with another serum, mask, or cleanser I’d start by asking why my skin was breaking out in the first place.

Acne is rarely just a surface issue. It’s often a sign of something deeper
shifts in hormones
inflammation
gut imbalances
glucose distillation
nutrient deficiencies
or an overloaded detoxification system.

The first step would be testing my bloods. This tells you so much more than guesswork ever could from nutrient status like zinc and vitamin D, to hormone balance, insulin sensitivity, and liver function.

Next, I’d focus on my gut. A healthy microbiome influences everything from inflammation to how you metabolise hormones. That means eating a diverse range of plant foods rich in fibre and polyphenols to feed beneficial bacteria.

I’d prioritise 8–9 hours of quality sleep each night. Poor sleep can spike cortisol and disrupt insulin, both of which can drive breakouts.

I’d stop skipping meals and ensure I was eating enough balanced, nutrient-rich food to keep my adrenals and blood sugar stable throughout the day.

And I’d drink cleansing herbal teas like cleanse to support liver detoxification, because how your body processes and clears hormones and toxins can directly impact your skin’s clarity.

I see huge shifts in skin, even stubborn skin, when we look past skin itself and understand the root cause.

Want to know what we are doing to stay well this winter?

The days may be getting lighter but winter is still in full swing with what feels like everyone being struck down by a cold or bug.

In winter our bodies naturally crave a slower pace; instead of fighting against it why not turn inward, nourish deeply, and support immune and hormone health with simple daily rituals.

Here’s what we’re doing to stay well and grounded this season:

Eating slow-cooked foods
Stews, soups and broths that warm the gut; support digestion; and deeply nourish. Root veggies, ginger, garlic, bone broth, spices and herbs are our go-tos.

🍵 Sipping on herbal tea
As herbalists we know just how powerful a warm cup of tea can be, this us why Jennifer is launching Herbal teas are our constant winter companion—hydrating, calming, and quietly powerful.

Prioritising morning light
Ten minutes outside can do wonders; it resets your circadian rhythm; boosts serotonin; and balances hormones. Even cloudy light counts.

Slowing down movement
Winter isn’t the time to push; it’s the time to tune in. We’re choosing yoga, 20min strength training, yin yoga, walks; anything that supports rather than stresses.

Leaning into grounding practices
Think journaling, time in nature, deep breathing, meditation, or even simply placing your feet on the earth. These rituals anchor your nervous system and bring you back into your body.

Wellness in winter requires us to slow down and why not enjoy the wonders that come with slow days, slow cooking and slow movement.

What’s one thing you’re doing to care for yourself this season?

👉 5 signs your hormones may be off and what to test

Hormone balances don’t always scream for attention, they can be subtle enough for us to say ‘I’m just a mum, this os’s how I’m suppose to feel’ or ‘ this is probably how others feel, I need to toughen up’

Sorry but NO, if you feel it it is real!

Something is off and ignoring may lead to low energy, low body confidence, poor motivation and worry.

Women’s bodies are complex and beautiful, we receive signs to help us barricade what we need and when addressed we keep in flow, harmony with our body and have a better relationship with self.

It may be time to test!

Save my easy guide for next time you are feeling off 💌

PSA - it’s not always your GP’s role to do extensive testing, that’s what naturopaths are here for so if you have trouble requesting a test form DM me.

Feeling puffy or bloated for no clear reason? It might be your stress hormones.

When cortisol is high (from stress, poor sleep, blood sugar dips), it acts like a hormone called aldosterone 🧂—which tells your body to hold on to sodium. And wherever sodium goes, water follows 💧

The result?
• Puffiness (especially around the face and eyes)
• Swollen hands, feet, or ankles
• A heavy, inflamed feeling that’s not just “weight gain”
Cortisol also boosts ADH (antidiuretic hormone), which reduces how much water you excrete. That means even more fluid retention.

✨ To support cortisol balance:
– Prioritise blood sugar stability 🍽️
– Sleep 8-9 hours nightly 😴
– Move gently every day 🚶‍♀️
– Use adaptogens like withania or passionflower

👉 Keeping cortisol down is not an easy task and I am constantly working on this as a mum, business owner and type A gal. I’m not excluded from the effects of cortisol just because I’m a naturopath 🤣
