Let’s continue to learn what is said in the American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology (ACC) and multi-society guideline for Prevention, Detection and Treatment of High Blood Pressure.

Transcendental Meditation is recommended as one of the means of stress reduction to be used in addition to lifestyle management for hypertension.

Some may say: “But also breathwork and yoga — so what’s the difference?”

Here are some important details to know:

📌 Transcendental Meditation: consistent moderate- to high-level evidence from clinical trials, showing average reductions of about 5 mmHg systolic and 2 mmHg diastolic.

📌 Breathing techniques: also show average reductions of about 5/3 mmHg, but the guideline rated the evidence as only moderate, because the studies were smaller, shorter, and varied widely in approach.

📌 Yoga: low- to moderate-grade evidence.

📌 Mindfulness and other stress-based interventions: described as less robust and lower quality.

✨ The key takeaway: while yoga and breathwork have potential, Transcendental Meditation stands out as the only meditation practice with consistent evidence strong enough to be highlighted in the guideline itself.
