Need this at the moment ❤️
One time, while riding bikes with my daughter, she suddenly slowed down right in front of me. I had a choice: I could either run into her and knock her down, or I could take the fall.
I took the fall,
Landing hard on my right side.
My daughter ran to my aid, and I fought back tears. My right hand and knee burned from the slap of the pavement and my rib felt punctured … but she was ok. She was ok. I’d take the fall for her any day.
Today, I noticed the scar on my knee from that incident three years ago, and I was reminded of a few significant truths…
Even on days when I can’t tear myself away from my distractions …
Even on days when I am irritated over trivial things …
Even on days that I obsess over bulges and wrinkles and things that don’t matter one bit in the end …
Even on days when I want to go inside my closet and cry …
Even on days when I fall short, I am still that person who would sacrifice her knees… her pride… her comfort… for the people she loves.
Perhaps you know someone who would make the same sacrifice; I bet you do.
So, when you see that imperfect human being staring back at you in the mirror, I ask that you extend grace rather than judgment.
You are not the sum of your distractions.
You are not comprised of your flaws and failings.
You’re made of love that is always ready, willing, and able
To take the fall
And tend to the bruises with compassion and care.
Let that truth fuel forward today.
