FODMAP is an acronym, and it stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols, which are short-chain carbohydrates and sugar alcohols that are poorly absorbed by the body, resulting in abdominal pain and bloating.ββββββββ

There are six types of FODMAPs including:ββββββββ
β Fructose ββββββββ
β Sorbitolββββββββ
β Mannitolββββββββ
β Galacto-oligosaccharides ββββββββ
β Fructansββββββββ
β Lactose ββββββββ

π‘The most important thing to remember is that FODMAP-containing foods are not 'bad'. They are found in very healthy foods such as onions, apples, asparagus, mushrooms, peaches and milk. ββββββββ

For this reason, the low FODMAP diet should not be undertaken without the guidance of a trained professional. ββββββββ
