🕯️HORNSBY HOSPITAL HOLDS REMEMBRANCE GATHERING 🕯️

This weekend, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital held a remembrance gathering to honour those who lost their lives in the antisemitic Bondi attack.

Candles were lit in solidarity with the Jewish community with reflection and hope, acknowledging loss while affirming life, healing and unity. Staff, patients and visitors paused together for quiet reflection.

Rizwan Rahiman, Manager Corporate Services at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, reflected on the need to be kind to everyone, particularly in moments of grief and uncertainty.

The gathering offered a moment to stand together, remember those lost, and choose compassion over hate.

🎄 STAY SAFE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON 🎄

Staff got into the Christmas spirit recently with a festive lunch, served by the hospital executive.

After a busy year, staff and volunteers were able to get merry and enjoy some Christmas cheer as they feasted on a lunch put on by the hospital to thank everyone for their passion and commitment throughout 2025.

New hospital general manager Amanda Green donned on the Santa apron and helped serve lunch as she got to meet more staff.

We wish you all a very happy, healthy and safe holiday season.

✨ HORNSBY MIDWIFE RECOGNISED FOR INSPIRATIONAL PAEDIATRIC CARE ✨

Meet Gosha Gersbach, the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital midwife making a difference for hundreds of newborns and their families every year. Her dedication to neonatology has earned her the Humpty Dumpty Michelle Beets Award for Inspirational Paediatric Care.

Since 2012, this award honours the legacy of Michelle Beets, a highly respected nurse at Royal North Shore Hospital. With NSW Government support, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation continues to celebrate exceptional paediatric care across the public health system.

Gosha, a clinical midwifery specialist, combines clinical excellence with leadership and mentorship, guiding the next generation of midwives. Upon receiving her award, she said: “You may never meet the babies you have helped but trust me you have changed their lives in the most meaningful way.”

She received $25,000 in medical equipment for Hornsby and a $5,000 professional development bursary to continue her incredible work.

💻 SINGLE DIGITAL PATIENT RECORD (SDPR)

The SDPR is NSW Health’s state-wide unified electronic medical record, patient administration system, and laboratory information management system. It brings multiple systems together into one full view of a patient’s health journey, ensuring care teams have the right information wherever people receive treatment in NSW.

With the SDPR:
- Patients won’t need to repeat their health history
- Clinicians have real-time access to imaging, pathology, medications, and assessment history
- Administration across hospitals is streamlined

This major transformation is represented in the artwork ‘Healing Connections – From All Walks, One Path.’ by Wodi Wodi, Worimi and Yuin Nation artist Lee Anthony Hampton. Dr Teresa Anderson AM calls it “a visual embodiment of change,” reflecting resilience, equity, and the shared progress of all NSW communities.

From 1 December 2025, Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) will only be accepting electronic referrals (eReferrals) from General Practitioners (GPs) through the HealthLink platform.
Outpatient Services in NSLHD will reject paper/fax/emailed referrals from GPs and request the referral is resubmitted by the GP through HealthLink.

The implementation of eReferrals is part of NSW Health’s broader digital eHealth strategy https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/priorities/documents/ehealth-strategy.pdf) and offers several key benefits:

- A secure and reliable platform that reduces the risk of lost or delayed referrals
- Improved completeness and accuracy of clinical information, with the ability to add information directly from a patient’s clinical records
- Real-time status updates and tracking of referral progress
- Secure and timely communication between referring practitioners and hospital services
