ESSAY STARTS HERE ⬇️
The other day a fellow trainer told me that I “move for the sake of moving.” At first, I was pretty offended. It stuck with me for a while, until I realised that that trainer lacked the understanding of why I see movement as important 💥
My idea of training has never been to perfect my lifts completely, or work within a set rep range, or increase load each week. I train to challenge my body in all forms. I train to try new things and to improve elements of my fitness that will assist in my EVERY DAY LIFE. I train for physiological benefits, and long term gain, such as bone health, cardiac function, and the freedom to move for as long as possible. My goal may not be to look great while doing an exercise, or lose a certain amount of body fat, and there is nothing wrong with these goals at all! They just don’t suit me.
I enjoy my training because I do what I feel like doing, when I feel like doing it. I train to feel good, and to move more, and move well. I train because I believe that exercise is not only prevention, but medicine.
I train to be able to do activities like this ^^^ for as long as possible! To enjoy my life and the gift of freedom of movement that I have been blessed with! To have fun every day 🌊🏄🏽♀️🏐💛
Never feel like you have to set goals that meet the standards of the modern gym ju**ie. This may not always have your health and longevity at best interest. And NEVER question your values to fit someone else’s. Train because YOU enjoy it! ✨
And just because it’s Valentine’s Day ❤️
