🎥 Things I Would Never Do as a Physio (And What to Do Instead)

Because prevention > rehab every time.

❌ 1. Sit for 8 hours without moving

🟢 Instead: Set a timer every 45–60 minutes to stand, stretch, or take a quick walk. Your spine, hips, and brain will thank you.

❌ 2. Ignore shoulder pain for weeks

🟢 Instead: Address it early. Small aches can turn into chronic issues if left too long. Early physio = faster recovery.

❌ 3. Stretch only when I’m injured

🟢 Instead: Make mobility part of your weekly routine. Think of it as brushing your teeth — small, regular habits > big fix later.

❌ 4. Train hard without recovery

🟢 Instead: Recovery is training. Sleep, hydration, and rest days are part of performance — not a break from it.

❌ 5. Chase “cracks” or “clicks” as treatment

🟢 Instead: I focus on movement quality, strength, and long-term results — not short-term fixes.

✨ Aerialist Strength Series: Scapular Control, Grip & Pulling Power 💪✨

In the world of aerial, it’s not just about flexibility — strength and control are key to staying injury-free and performing at your best.

🔹 Scapular Control: Think wall slides, push-ups, and hanging shrugs. Solid scapular mechanics = smoother transitions + less shoulder strain.
🔹 Grip Strength: Whether you’re on silks or lyra, grip endurance can make or break a routine. We test it with hang time or a dynamometer squeeze.
🔹 Pulling Strength: Chin-ups and isometric holds help us assess your pulling capacity — essential for straddle-ups, beats, and clean climbs.

📌 Small imbalances here often lead to overuse, fatigue or injury — but with the right assessment and targeted rehab, we can rebuild smarter. 👏

Unlocking a Dancer’s Turnout: Mobility, Activation & Control 🔥

Turnout is essential for dancers, but forcing it beyond your natural hip capacity can lead to injuries and compensations. True turnout comes from the hip joint, supported by activation, mobility, and control—not just stretching!

Understanding Turnout 🤓

Turnout relies on the deep external rotators of the hip (like the piriformis and obturator muscles), as well as the glutes, adductors, and core. If these muscles aren’t properly activated and engaged, dancers may compensate through the knees, ankles, or lower back, increasing injury risk.

Common Turnout Mistakes

❌ Forcing the feet outward without proper hip mobility
❌ Letting the knees or ankles compensate
❌ Weak glutes, core, or deep rotators leading to instability

How to Improve Your Turnout

✅ Hip Activation Drills – Banded clamshells, seated turnout pulses, isometric holds
✅ Resistance-Based Exercises – Side-lying turnout with a resistance band, standing banded turnout, arabesque pulses with resistance
✅ Core & Pelvic Stability – Single-leg balance with turnout, controlled pliés engaging deep rotators
✅ Active Mobility Work – 90/90 hip transitions, controlled hip CARs (controlled articular rotations)

Turnout isn’t just about range—it’s about how well your body controls and sustains it. Prioritizing activation and resistance-based training over passive stretching will help you maximize your natural turnout safely and effectively.

Need help optimizing your turnout? Here at Raw Element we can assess your movement patterns and provide a tailored plan to enhance your technique while keeping you injury-free. Train smart, dance strong!

Happy Friday 🔥🔥🔥
The weekend is approaching and the weather is perfect for a run. Here is our 3rd and final tip from Adrian:
The Right Shoes Matter! 👟
Wearing the wrong shoes can lead to discomfort, pain, and injuries. Adrian’s expert tip? “Your running shoes should match your foot shape, running style, and training needs.”

✅ Choose shoes that fit your foot shape & running gait
✅ Replace them every 500-800 km
✅ Get fitted by a professional if you’re unsure!

Do you have a favorite running shoe? Drop it in the comments! 👇

🏃‍♂️ Tip 2 from our Physio Adrian: Follow the 10% Rule! 📊
One of the biggest causes of running injuries is doing too much, too soon. Adrian’s advice? “Avoid overloading your body by increasing your mileage or pace gradually.”

🔹 Increase by no more than 10% per week.
🔹 Listen to your body—progress should feel challenging but sustainable
🔹 Slow, steady progress beats burnout and injuries!

Have you ever overtrained and felt the consequences? Let’s talk in the comments! 👇

Three Pro Tips directly from Adrian 💪

🏃‍♂️ Tip 1: Don’t Skip Leg Day! 🏋️‍♀️
Strength training isn’t just for gym-goers—it’s a game-changer for runners! Research shows that a focused strength and conditioning program reduces injury risk and improves running economy.

✅ Strength train 2-3x per week
✅ Target hips, knees, and ankles (think squats, lunges, and calf raises)
✅ Helps absorb impact and prevents common running injuries

Adrian says: “A strong lower body is key to running efficiently and staying injury-free!”

Do you include strength training in your routine? Let us know in the comments! 👇🔥
