With the end of year festive season fast approaching, we would like to thank you for your continued support.

3 Eastern Medicine Tips to keep your Digestive system functioning well

The digestive system in Eastern Medicine is composed of the Stomach system and Spleen System, whereby the Stomach processes the food and the Spleen distributes the nutrients to all parts of the body. Problems in the digestive system can lead to a range of ailments such as bloating, abdominal pain, joint inflammation, nausea and heartburn.

Here are 3 tips to keep your digestive system functioning well during Winter:

*Regularity: The Stomach likes regularity so having meals at consistent set times helps to avoid an upset Stomach

*Keep the Abdomen and Stomach warm: The Stomach likes warmth to help it digest and process food. Drinking alot of cold beverages during meals dampens the Stomach fire and can cause indigestion and loose stools.

-A healthy habit is to massage your abdomen in a clockwise direction after meals to warm the area up and help with digestive function.

*Eat more during the day and less at night: According to the meridian clock, the Stomach and Spleen are most active between 7am-9am (Stomach) and 9am-11am (Spleen). This means it is better to eat larger meals in the morning and less at night (which is the time when digestive activity is slower). Eating big meals at inappropriate times causes sluggish digestion and weight gain.

It is important to keep your digestive system functioning well, as weak digestion cannot help you absorb nutrients properly no matter how healthy you eat.
