Do you have any suggestions on how the Allied Health services could be improved?

Auckland University of Technology need you!

An interdisciplinary research team from Auckland University of Technology are seeking healthcare consumers and allied health professionals to help shape the future of allied health service delivery. This study aims to come up with innovative ideas that meet the health and well-being needs of New Zealanders.

AUT will be holding a series of workshops/wānanga in four locations (Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington and Dunedin). Each participant will be asked to attend three workshops in their local area, each held one month apart (July - October). Workshops will be held in the afternoon/evening (approximately 4 hours in length), and food and refreshments will be provided at designated break times. Participants will be asked to share their ideas through a variety of arts-based activities and discussions to bring out individuals' views.

26/06/2025

This session reviews the application and instructional approaches to basic critical care echocardiography (CCE) in low-resource environments. It will focus on the use of focused transthoracic echocardiography to support clinical assessment in patients with undifferentiated shock, respiratory failure, or hemodynamic instability where advanced monitoring or specialist input is limited.

The webinar will present core sonographic techniques and discuss training delivery models suited to resource-constrained settings, including approaches to supervision, skills retention, and integration into routine clinical care. Considerations around equipment availability, governance, and workforce capability will also be addressed.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Outline common and important indications for basic critical care echocardiography in resource-limited settings.
2. Identify key components of a basic CCE training program suited to low-resource settings, including supervision models and assessment methods.
3. Recognise the operational and educational barriers to implementing CCE training, and discuss approaches to address them.
4. Review selected examples of how basic CCE has been incorporated into clinical practice in low-resource ICUs or emergency settings.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Robert Peterson, a respected and much-loved member of the Australasian ultrasound community.

Rob held senior roles at both Toshiba (now Canon Medical) and Philips Medical. As such Rob was a regular at ASUM events over many years. His warmth and commitment to the field left a lasting impact on colleagues, clinicians and the broader medical imaging community. He will be remembered for his kindness and sense of humour.

The ASUM community extends our deepest condolences to Robs family, friends and colleagues at this time.
