Happy International Nurses Day!
Not many people know this, but nursing runs deep in my blood. Itâs more than a profession, itâs a legacy.
My Granny Agatha was a nurse, as were her daughters, my Aunties Maura and Collette. My mother Clare, my Great Aunty Alice, and my sister Karen all proudly wore the uniform too. My cousin Oonagh continues the tradition as a midwife.
And it doesnât stop there. On my husbandâs side, his Great Aunt Sister Ethna (who trained and worked alongside my mum and aunties), his Aunties Bernadette and GrĂĄinne, and his cousin Fiona have all contributed to this incredible profession.
Some of my earliest memories are of Christmas mornings at the Mater Hospital in Belfast, picking up my mum after her night shift before heading to Mass. I remember the nurses in their capes and caps, their hair perfectly pulled back, their belts with those elegant clips, and I thought they were the most beautiful, graceful people in the world.
Much has changed since then. Scrubs have replaced dresses, and the caps are long gone, but the compassion, care, and deep empathy that define this profession remain untouched.
I was raised to be proud of nursing. To safeguard our patients, to advocate for their healing, and to always lead with empathy.
At INMC-Australia, nursing is at the very heart of what we do. We are committed to advocating for our candidates and placing them in clinical environments where they can grow, thrive, and build a meaningful career in a profession that I hold so dearly.
I am part of a legacy of nurses who take immense pride in caring for our communities, and I carry that legacy with deep gratitude every single day.
Happy International Nurses Day 2025.
May we continue to shape the future of healthcare and bring the empathy and compassion so needed in a world where technology is advancing, but the human touch remains irreplaceable.
