One of the largest and most trusted kids’ health charities in the country, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation exists to help provide all children with access to the best possible healthcare, whenever and wherever they need it. We have been delivering on this promise since 1986, raising millions every year for Sydney Children's Hospitals Network - including Sydney's two children’s hospitals at Randwick and Westmead, specialised care services, and cutting edge paediatric research, operating across NSW. A conduit, an enabler, and a mechanism for powerful change, we make sure funds raised go directly to the front line of children’s healthcare – from the hospital wards to the treatment rooms, the research labs to the outreach programs.

In 2022, through the Greenlight pilot, Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation put a spotlight on promising research across the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network.

Clinician researchers were supported to pitch their work directly to philanthropists, alongside a platform created to showcase their ideas. Together, this helped accelerate projects from concept to real-world care.

The Greenlight pilot has already demonstrated how philanthropy can connect supporters with the people behind the research and help innovative ideas move closer to children and families.

The FY25 Impact Report shares several stories from Greenlight and what they mean for the future of children's healthcare. Read more on the blog and explore the FY25 Impact Report on our website: https://brnw.ch/21x0arC

As children and young people move through hospital, from waiting rooms to wards, corridors to clinics, they are also journeying through life in deeply personal and emotional ways. Every young person’s hospital experience is unique, yet it is also something quietly shared.

As part of the redevelopment’s broader Arts, Play and Discovery initiative, the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) Art Program was invited to deliver a patient-led artwork for the lifts. SCHF artist educators consulted with children and young people in hospital, and their feedback shaped the creative direction, highlighting a preference for bright colours, text and an element of gamification.

This inspired a collaboration with Sydney-based artist Nadia Odlum, who worked alongside patients across the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick and The Children's Hospital at Westmead to explore playful ways to move through space. In workshops, children and their families wrote down different ways of moving. These words were then shuffled and combined into surprising and delightful pairings such as 'floating-flop' and 'dancing-somersault'.

The result is a vibrant interactive artwork transforming an everyday lift ride into a space of creativity, imagination and play.

This story is featured in our recent FY25 Impact Report. Read more on our blog and explore the full report on our website: https://brnw.ch/21x029t

A major milestone has been reached at The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW), with the completion of construction on a new 14-storey building – set to welcome patients in the coming months. This redevelopment forms part of a broader expansion across the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, strengthening world-class paediatric care and enhancing spaces for learning, collaboration and discovery for children and families.

Through collaboration between philanthropy and government, significant investment and meaningful progress in paediatric healthcare is possible. Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation is proud to support this transformative project and recognises the generosity of our donor community, whose philanthropic support has been instrumental in bringing this redevelopment to life.

At CHW, the completion of construction marks a significant step forward in the expansion of critical care and acute healthcare services. The new state-of-the-art building brings together expanded cancer services, perioperative and surgical care, complex and acute medical inpatient services and a state-wide burns service, alongside single patient rooms designed to support family togetherness, a surgical short stay unit, and a larger pharmacy and oncology pharmacy.

Pictured here is a glimpse of the incredible new building at CHW. We are deeply grateful to our donors for their generosity and ongoing commitment to this redevelopment, and for standing alongside us to change the future for sick kids.

As we approach International Childhood Cancer Day, we are reminded of the impact childhood cancer has on children and families.

Flynn was just a baby when he was diagnosed with infantile fibrosarcoma, a rare but highly treatable cancer. After presenting unwell at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, tests revealed a tumour the size of a tennis ball was pressing on his kidney.

With access to specialist care and a targeted treatment, Flynn was able to take a medicine at home instead of undergoing surgery or chemotherapy. Within six weeks, his tumour reduced by more than 90 per cent. Today, Flynn is 17 months old and in remission.

Now, Flynn’s parents, Marina and Tom, are taking part in Walk for Kids with Cancer to give back and support childhood cancer research and care across the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network. By joining Flynn’s family on the walk, you are helping support better outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer today, and into the future.
