Over the weekend, one of our defibs was used in a heartbreaking situation.

A 27-year-old referee collapsed during a game when his heart suddenly stopped. Despite immediate use of the defibrillator, he sadly didn’t make it. What makes this even more devastating is that his fiancée was the line judge at the game and witnessed everything unfold.

We share this with a heavy heart.

While these are the stories we never want to hear, they are a sobering reminder of why we do what we do. On average, we get one life saved every month because a defib was close by and used quickly.

When a defibrillator is used within the first 3 minutes, the chance of survival can be as high as 70%. Without one, the odds drop to less than 10%.

But even within that 70%, not everyone survives — and those losses are devastating.

It’s why we continue this mission. It’s why we push for more awareness, more access, and more action. Because every second counts — and every life!

Well done Andy Ross donating one of our Heart180 Defibs to the Sunshine Coast Paddlesports Club.

My paddle group over the 20 years experienced 3 heart issues during training.

You can never be to careful.

Just a note: if you haven’t had your heart checked in the past 3 years, make an appointment & get it done.

Great to see the Heart180 outdoor defibs starting to appear across the Coffs Harbour area. This provides a 24/7 heart safe solution for the more populated areas.

The first 5 all went up this week thanks to the support of Brad Daymond & the local businesses that all banded together & raised much needed funds.

We brought the Defib Hero program to Coffs last month.

The Defib Hero app lets you -
* Locate your closest Defib
* Register your device
* Reminds you when battery & pads need changing
*Provides free online cpr & defib training.

More defibs will be spread across the community over the next few months!

Exciting news that Defib Hero will be launching in June in Ballina.
Great launch today with Natalie Hardy who raised $70k after losing her husband to a cardiac arrest a few years ago & the mayor of Ballina - Sharon Cadwallader.

Defib Hero is an app that locates your closest AED, reminds you when your battery needs replacing & lets you do free online training!

Thanks to Rotary for their help in getting this Heart180 24/7 accessible AED on the 16th hole of Long Reef Golf course adjacent to the walking track the general public use all the time.

So many people utilise the walking track at Longy Headland.
Makes a lot of sense having it here!

Lifesaving Defibs - We Need to Take Action

FORMER ironman surf champion Guy Leech knows why one of his best mates slipped away hours after he battled to bring his heart back to life on a Sydney beach.

The eventual death of 63-year-old Charles "Chucky" Stewart was all a matter of bad timing - in that a relatively simple-to-operate machine called an automated external defibrillator arrived precious minutes too late.

Guy, the blond heart-throb lifesaver, who burst on to the national sporting scene in the 1980s, was in Noosa catching up with his family this week. He has made better access to these

heart starting machines his new life mission. Chucky worked as a reporter for Channel 9 and became great friends with Guy after doing a Wide World of Sports piece on the ironman's tilt at being a competitive triathlete.
