Blown away by the support from everyone .. what started as an idea .. now has 52 members in our Facebook group @lowbarmentalhealthpushupchallenge . This challenge is for everyone .. why be alone when we can grow together .. we’d love to see people of all ages & stages... Mum’s, Dad’s, kids, whole families and even grandparents!
So good for Cruz-O & I and a few of our @hillshawksfootballclub over 35’s men’s ladies comp & juniors to celebrate with our good mate & team mate Mick O'Brien and his son Will on the last day of his 25 days .. a massive effort mate with a big 50! So good also to have the boys together after Mick & Will took on our #LadandDadchallenge and the boys kept going getting better and better each day .. a massive PB for both Will on 23 & Cruz-O on 28 ! Special mentions to Mick’s daughter Lucinda & My daughter Jaziah who also got involved - Go Girlpower🙂

Hey Guys, for those who heard it I would like to thank the lovely and very capable Georgia, Morning announcer Hope 103.2 for creating the space to share around how the The Low bar Mental Health Push-up Challenge all began .. for those who missed it .. I will share shortly ..
I have just completed the men’s mental health challenge 25 pushups for 25 days .. and it felt like a hollow victory .. so many thousands of people get nominated to join in and choose not to ... love what the challenge is about and the good it’s doing .. and the great conversations that come out of it ... but thinking about all the other people who didn’t .. how do we help them .. and make sure they’re not alone .. so why not make the bar so low anyone can get involved ... that’s why I created the The Low bar Mental Health Push-up Challenge for everyone ! All ages and stages .. we go for 20 weeks to build to 25 pushups and we start with 5 week 1 and grow by 1 a week .. the bar is so low you can turn up and do 1 to get going . . The goal being 5 .. you can turn up any night at 6pm on any week whenever you feel like it .. turning up once is better than not at all and one more push-up than you used to do is making you healthier .. so why not have some fun .. ? Get the kids involved .. grandparents .. make it something to bring the whole family together .. coming out of Covid 19 we all have lots of pressures with job uncertainty , income and cashflow challenges .. and need to look after ourselves .. so come and join the fun even if you can only do one ...

Jazi and I re-recorded and redid another 5 pushups so you can hear the sound and complete the challenge .. so good to have Lee Brogden, Alex Torville Adam Sutherton join us .. for a solid 5 .. remember the official low bar for week 1 is 5 and next week it will be 6 .. for those who are at different ages and stages you are welcome to do more .. but guys don’t feel any pressure to do so ...

The mental health challenge should be for everyone.. we can all do something positive together and share the experience & some real conversations with our families and mates and get fitter, healthier, happier at the same time at a time when we all need it ..
We have removed all the barriers so anyone can join in ... the bar is so low we can all do it and grow together ..
We are on at 6pm each day Monday to Friday for approx 10 minutes. We will be doing 5 pushups tonight in the first week and will grow by 1 push-up each week 5 days a week for 20 weeks concluding with 25 push-ups in week 20.
You can either join in once a day or once a week or once a month it’s up to you .. the main thing is you are doing more than you were and getting healthier every day ..
The idea is the bar is so low anyone can join in and if you fail that’s ok we will be #failingforwardtogether

This community is about not being alone and going through life’s challenges together .. more than ever we need this .. we all have stuff on our minds and challenges every day .. but when you’re loaded up with stress or stuff you’re working through it’s easy to lose it over the small stuff .. don’t sweat the small stuff .. have a laugh at it and move on .. The pic I shared ... there will always be moments where you blink and miss the opportunity but as long as you keep smiling you’re #failingforward... the The Low bar Mental Health Push-up Challenge is our first initiative .. I wanted something we could do together .. to get the ball rolling .. I did the 25 pushups for 25 days and it was good and a great idea and learnt a lot and wouldn’t regret it .. but would have like to see alit more get involved ... the simple reason .. the bar was too high and too confronting for too many people or the method of video was not for them for whatever reason ... this challenge is different I’ve reverse engineered to make it a very low bar ... you can do as little as you want .. start where you’re at with 1 push-up .. and aim for 5 .. each week it will go up by one .. and you only have to join on one day each week .. if you can .. or you could do most days and get the full benefit ... wherever you’re at ... the next thing is it’s a zoom chat .. so instead of you as one person .. doing it to the camera ... you’re doing it with a bunch of people and we are all doing it together ... you can also get your family to join in .. we then record the video I post it and you guys can share it .. as a group doing it and encouraging your friends, family and colleagues to get involved so we can all get good at #failingforward together and discovering muscles we never knew we had ... to deal with stuff and live a healthier life ...

it’s been a long time coming .. but here I am 25 days ends today .. it’s bitter sweet ! I’ve loved the journey,
Engaging with and reflecting on what is good mental health and sharing the journey with my brothers ..
the thought for today is #claimyourmountain 25 days is like climbing a massive mountain day in day out for over 3 and a half weeks ...you never know what’s on the other side of a commitment when all you can see is the grind ahead of you but once you reach the summit it’s better than you imagined and well worth it ...
I’ve loved sharing the journey with my brothers .. Peter Scapellato (Scappo) thanks for the nomination and the opportunity to share the journey together - well done ! You got in and you got it done... Mick O'Brien .. well done mate you’re on the home straight with a week to go and a solid effort pushing over 40 each session .. love that you took on the #ladanddadchallenge with Cruz-O & I with Young Will and your daughter Lucinda.. and my daughter Jazi .. so great to have our kids get involved and start the conversation early ..

Day 24 ! Bondi Beach just before midnight in the and the cold .. In my work
One more day to go ...and going hard ... I have every reason under the sun .. or stars .. why I shouldn’t be here right now ... I’ve spent all day in back to back meetings from Sydney’s north shire to Newcastle to dinner in the Central coast and I’ve just dropped a colleague home at Bellevue Hill ...and I thought I have absolutely no excuses .. I wanted to do a push up challenge at Bondi beach and ideally in the sunshine (as you can see it’s a tad dark behind me) .. with my gym gear on and it would have been quite enjoyable ...
But ... here I am in the freezing cold ... the wind lapping against me ... As you can see I don’t have my gym gear on ... I did have it in the car .. but I wanted to make the point ...
#noexcuses is the thought for today ...
You can every reason why not to do something especially when it’s dark and it’s almost midnight at Bondi beach ... in the rain .. in the cold .. but that’s not what we’re about ..the #mensmentalchallenge is about pushing through.. no
matter what the obstacles ... so this is where the rubber hits the road and you gotta live it .. I’m literally shivering my proverbials off... to make it happen ..
So right in front of the Bondi beach lifetower on the wet footpath is where I made it happen ... I had to plank to finish my sign-off over the wet pavement ...
so #noexcuses #getinandgetitdone ..
The #mensmentalhealthchallenge is all about men encouraging other men to have real conversations about how they’re going and share the journey together and what better way to do it then mates helping mates and brothers helping brothers ..
Let’s make sure none of our mates are left alone..
