This April Falls Month, Westmead Hospital Foundation was delighted to support falls prevention awareness 💛

We loved being able to contribute by providing goody bags—helping to start conversations and share simple, practical ways people can look after their health and reduce their risk of falls.

Did you know that improving your balance and staying active can reduce your likelihood of falls by up to 23%? It’s a small reminder of how everyday actions can have a big impact.

It was wonderful to see staff, patients and visitors engaging with the initiative and taking those steps towards staying safe and well 🏥

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, with World Parkinson’s Day recognised on 11 April 💙

It’s a time to raise awareness, support those living with Parkinson’s, and highlight the importance of research and innovation in improving quality of life.

Through Westmead Hospital Foundation, Dr Matthew Georgiades is undertaking a prestigious fellowship at Queen Square, London—working with world-leading experts to advance neuromodulation and deep brain stimulation therapies for Parkinson’s disease. His work focuses on improving gait and mobility, with the goal of bringing these cutting-edge treatments back to benefit patients in our community.

Together, we can drive progress, inspire hope, and move closer to better treatments and care.

Westmead Hospital Foundation was thrilled to be part of the Richard Crookes Construction (RCC) Easter Fundraiser this year.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of RCC and their partners, more than $50,000 was raised in support of Cumberland Mental Health Services—an amazing contribution that will have a real impact!

The atmosphere on site was something special. There was a strong sense of pride and camaraderie, with crews enjoying the BBQ, raffle and fundraising activities. It was clear that many of the workers valued the chance to contribute to something meaningful beyond the build itself.

Seeing the progress of the new integrated mental health complex up close was equally inspiring. This facility represents an important step forward in providing compassionate, high-quality mental health care for our community.

We’re so grateful to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a success.

We were proud to support the Plastics, Reconstructive and Vascular Seminar—bringing together nurses from across WSLHD to learn, connect and expand their clinical knowledge. 💡

Events like these play a vital role in strengthening skills, sharing expertise and ultimately improving patient care across our hospitals.

Thank you to everyone who took part in making it such a valuable day of learning.

We recently received some heartfelt feedback from families supported through our Christmas hamper program ❤️

A joint effort from Westmead Hospital Foundation and the incredible work of the WSLHD Whole Family Team — who directly support and connect with families — this initiative helped bring people together over the festive season.

Families shared how meaningful it was to sit down and enjoy a traditional Christmas meal, with some experiencing this for the first time in years. Simple moments like setting the table, sharing food, and celebrating together created a real sense of connection, belonging, and joy.

Parents spoke about how special it felt to create these memories with their children — moments that might not have been possible otherwise.

This program was about more than just food. It was about dignity, connection, and helping families feel part of something special.

Thank you to the Whole Family Team for the care and support they provide every day, and to everyone who helped make this initiative possible. Your impact continues well beyond Christmas ✨

💜 Yesterday, our incredible epilepsy team at Westmead Hospital proudly wore purple in support of Purple Day – a global movement raising awareness for epilepsy.

Purple Day, held each year on March 26, brings people together to spark conversations, break down stigma, and support the millions of people living with epilepsy.

Across Australia, around 1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime – making awareness, understanding and support more important than ever.

By wearing purple, our team stands with patients, families and the wider community – helping to make epilepsy more visible and better understood.

💜 You can make a difference too.

From fear to furry cuddles 🐾💛

The Nepean Therapy Dogs team brought plenty of smiles to Westmead Hospital last week, visiting patients Liz and Denny—and sharing a special moment with staff member Tamara, who once felt afraid of dogs and is now all smiles and snuggles.

These gentle companions have a way of turning nerves into comfort and moments into memories. 🐶✨

Happiness can look different for everyone.

For Paul, it’s rebuilding strength, movement, and independence — one step at a time.

After becoming an amputee, Paul has been working closely with his physiotherapy team at Westmead, making incredible progress and embracing every milestone along the way.

Today, on International Day of Happiness (March 20), we’re celebrating moments like these — where determination, care, and support come together to create something powerful 💛

During WSLHD Delirium Awareness this week, Westmead Hospital Foundation was pleased to support the team at Westmead Hospital by providing goody bags to help raise awareness about delirium 💙

Delirium is a serious and often preventable condition that can affect patients in hospital, particularly older people. Raising awareness helps staff, patients and families recognise the signs earlier and support better outcomes.

A big thank you to the dedicated teams across Westmead who continue to champion education and patient safety every day.
