Chronic pain affects 1 in 5 Australians.
Rates of depression are 4 times higher in people with chronic pain.
Regardless of the cause or location of pain, most people share a common disability and life impact.
Work, relationships and emotional wellbeing suffers.
People can become disheartened about what the future holds.
Physical function tends to deteriorate.
Medications come with unwanted side effects.
Depression and anxiety can take hold.
People can feel a loss of control and direction.
At Northern Pain Centre our patients are at the heart of what we do.
Our aim is to reduce pain, improve quality of life and promote wellbeing.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as ‘a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’ (WHO, 1948).
"This is consistent with the biopsychosocial model of health, which considers physiological, psychological and social factors in health and illness, and interactions between these factors. The WHO definition links health explicitly with wellbeing, and conceptualises health as a human right requiring physical and social resources to achieve and maintain."
