Surgical Treatment of arthritis. Dr. Tamer Kahil has successfully performed hundreds of cases of circumcision in Australia and overseas. He is delighted that all cases he has performed achieved the best possible results. While it is not classified as a disease however, it is frequently associated with conditions such as phimosis, balanitis and rarely pe**le cancer. Circumcision, the removal of the fo****in, is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures in the world. Indications for circumcision are:

- Treatment of diseases, such as phimosis (adhesion of fo****in and pe**le g***s), balanitis (pe**le g***s infection).

- Painful sexual in*******se secondary to fo****in.

- Prophylactic benefits such as decrease risk of HIV, Hepatitis B transmission through sexual in*******se.

- Personal and sexual preference.

- Social and religious concerns; The development of the fo****in or prepuce begins during the third month of gestation as a fold of skin at the base of the g***s. The proper development of the fo****in is dependent on the presence of androgen and androgen receptors. Although formation of the fo****in is complete during foetal life, separation of the fo****in from the pe**le g***s is gradual and typically incomplete at the time of birth. Complete retraction of the fo****in can be expected in 20% of boys by 6 months, 50% by 1 year, 80% by 2 years and 90% by 3 years. Delay retraction and adhesion of fo****in with pe**le g***s can lead to certain medical conditions. At our Orthopaedic Surgery in Punchbowl, we accept males of all ages. It is performed under local anaesthetic as an office procedure. Please call us to make an appointment.

I would like to clarify few issues mentioned in regards of circumcision and the allegations stated by some people.
It is true that DR Tamer Kahil is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon and Circumcision is not his specialty.
It is fair to know that circumcision in Australia is practiced by medical and none medical experts, therefore, it is practiced by none medical circumcises like Rabbi and medical experts like general practitioners and specialists of all surgical disciplines (Obstetrics, ENT surgeons, Ophthalmologists, Paediatricians, Urologists etc). It does not require a specific qualification to do it.
Surgeons are at the best position to do it because of their training in skin wound care and circumcision is basically a removal of skin off the p***s.
DR Kahil is a practicing Muslim and well known in the Islamic communities. He started offering religious circumcision for the Islamic communities for years as a general practitioner, and once he became an orthopaedic surgeon he started requiring referral as a surgeon, he continued providing the circumcision service for more than 30 years as per demand of the Islamic communities, he never claimed that he is a specialist in circumcision.
Over the years, DR Kahil performed more than 26 thousand circumcisions of all ages under local and few under general anaesthetics.
The only complication he had was phimosis in chubby boys. This simple complication is easily treated but needs time, sometimes 2 – 4 months. The medication used is cortisone cream and it takes 2 weeks to kick in, mothers become irritated and lose trust in the medication because it is applied 4 times a day and she notices no improvement before the 2 weeks, they think it is an overnight improvement. DR Kahil’s phimosis rate is 1%. (26000 cases) The international literature of 1500 circumcisions reported a rate of 3%, therefore, he has the lowest rate in the world.
The second problem associated with circumcision in chubby boys is buried p***s that gives the impression of uncircumcised child or too much skin left. The reality is that the child has too much fat burying the shaft of the p***s and the skin left for the shaft (which is naturally long depends on the length of the p***s) is left dangling outside the fat giving the false impression that the child is not circumcised.
It also develops in normal weight children when they start gaining weight and parents think that the skin is growing and requires another circumcision
DR Kahil has modified his practice and started assessing children in a separate day to explain to the parents the possible complications in particular buried p***s and phimosis.
DR Kahil is aware of false allegations and negative feedback and has nothing to say other than fear Allah and stop telling lies.
