Is your back actually the problem?

That dull ache or tightness in your lower back might not be coming from your back at all.
We often see people trying to stretch, foam roll, or strengthen their lumbar spine but the truth is, the lower back is a stability zone. It’s designed to stay steady while the joints around it like your hips and mid-back (thoracic spine) do the moving.

This is where the stability–mobility model comes in:
✔️ Joints like the hips and thoracic spine are built for mobility
✔️ The lumbar spine (your lower back) is built for stability

When your hips get stiff or your mid-back stops rotating well, your lower back starts trying to pick up the slack and that’s when pain or dysfunction creeps in.

That’s why at Movement Lab, we don’t just treat the sore spot. We assess your whole body to find out where movement is missing, and then help you restore it with hands-on treatment, mobility work, and strength where it counts.

Because sometimes the key to fixing your back … is moving your hips.

Reminder: Pilates isn’t just for your core.

At Movement Lab, our physio-led Pilates is about full-body strength, stability, and longevity, especially when it comes to supporting bone health.

If you’re managing osteopenia, osteoporosis, or simply want to future-proof your body, here’s what we focus on:

• Weighted props and resistance training to safely load the body
• Jumpboard and impact work to support bone density
• Balance exercises to reduce fall risk
• Postural awareness and joint control
• Guided, evidence-based progressions with your body in mind

This is Pilates that’s practical, powerful, and personalised.

Dealing with mastitis or a blocked duct? Physiotherapy can help.

At Movement Lab, we support breastfeeding women with effective, evidence-based treatment for mastitis because waiting it out isn’t always the best option.

Our approach includes:
• Therapeutic ultrasound to reduce inflammation and help clear blockages
• Gentle manual therapy to relieve pressure and pain
• Education on feeding, drainage, and home strategies

Early treatment can ease symptoms fast and help prevent complications.

All our physios are different. We have different modalities and different skills in our toolkit. Justin here was an acupuncturist, turned physio and neuroscientist. We value lateral expansion in our team for diversity.

But we have one thing in common: a love for manual therapy, as much as we love movement and exercise.

It's not all about exercise. Healing follows a structure and most often it starts with the touch, the calm, the readjustments to let the nervous system settle.

That winter slump? Yeah, we feel it too.

When the temps drop, so does our movement.

Your morning walks feel less appealing. Your shoulders creep up. You start skipping stretches and shortening your gym sessions and suddenly, the little niggles start creeping in.

Stiff hips. Tight backs. Sore necks. A body that just feels... off.

Here’s the thing: winter isn’t a reason to stop moving. It’s a reminder to move smarter and more consistently.

Our 1:5 classes are the perfect way to reconnect with your body, build strength, and reset your routine in a way that actually feels good.

Small group, physio-led, focused on what you need.

Now’s a good time to get moving again & we can help you make it easy.

Stretching isn’t bad but without intention, it’s just pulling.

Most people are stretching what’s already long and overworked. At Movement Lab, we like to take a different approach.

We start with ball release to address myofascial tension. Then we add slow, mindful mobility that actually supports how you move.

Not your typical gym warm-up. No aimless pulling. Just movement that works with your body.
