The new NDIS planning changes will be introduced gradually from mid-2026, so many participants won’t see immediate changes. However, learning how to clearly explain how disability impacts daily life — and why supports are needed — will be increasingly important. Participants who prepare early often experience smoother plan reviews and fewer misunderstandings.

The new NDIS planning approach aims to reduce the need for repeated and costly reports. Plans are expected to be simpler, more flexible, and run for longer periods, giving participants more certainty and fewer scheduled reviews. Funding may be grouped into flexible budgets instead of strict line-by-line supports, while review rights remain unchanged if circumstances change.
