When the tendons of the outside elbow are injured, irritated, or inflamed, it becomes a condition labelled as Tennis Elbow. Tennis elbow is often caused by overuse, abuse, and misuse of the forearm.

Quite common in individuals in such sports as tennis or in employment requiring frequent using of a screwdriver, drilling, and/or repeated keyboard and mouse use.

Symptoms may involve pain and tenderness, and are usually felt on the outside of your dominant elbow and into the upper forearm. The pain is often exacerbated by wrist motions like gripping and anything which requires the use of forearm muscles.

If you have been suffering from elbow pain, don't let it worsened, contact the clinic on 4732 4086 or book online at www.penrithphysiotherapyalliedhealthcentre.com.au with one of our Physiotherapist's.

Falls Prevention

A fall is defined as an incident which results in a person coming to rest accidentally on the ground or floor or other lower level. Fall-related injuries may be fatal however most are non-fatal. While all people who fall are at risk of injury, the age, gender and health of the individual can affect the type and severity of injury.

How can physio help?

Exercise, including structured physical therapy, is an effective component of a fall prevention program, and the physiotherapist also may directly provide home hazard and footwear modification and education about fall risk. Prevention of further falls by working on mobility, balance and strength (the most effective intervention)

Contact the clinic on 4732 4086 to get a comprehensive assessment by one of our physio's to determine you risk of falls and create individualised exercise program and proper treatment.

Dry cracked heels are a common issue seen for most podiatrists on a daily basis. It can often lead to tenderness and become a source of discomfit. If left untreated, the cracks will develop into deep fissures causing large amounts of pain and risk of infection. These can occur via cracking/splitting around the heel region as the skin becomes calloused and dry. Other causes can include increased pressure (weight gain/pregnancy) causes the fat pad to spread out thin leading to splitting/cracking.

This can occur to anyone, however, certain populations and medical conditions can increase the risk:
▪ Diabetes
▪ Psoriasis
▪ Dermatitis
▪ Increased BMI
▪ Prolonged standing on hard surface
▪ Improper footwear

Best way to stay on top of this is via regular foot care/maintenance. Our podiatrists can help with preventative treatment modalities such as:

▪ Debridement – removal of the callus with sterile equipment
▪ Topical ointments prescription and advice
▪ Footwear/insoles prescription and information
