We are thrilled that a new clinician has joined us at Santosha Psychology! Cheene is a highly experienced psychologist that has worked with high risk complex clients in both forensic and clinical public- and private-settings. She has trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR), a specialised therapy for trauma/PTSD. Cheene is able to assist with trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, self-harm, suicidal ideations and behaviours, personality disorders and injury/compensation through SIRA. She is available both in person and via Telehealth on Saturdays.

Freud described dreams as the “royal road to the unconscious” and believed that some dreams fulfilled fantasies not gratified in our waking lives. Indeed, one study found that almost everyone that quit ni****ne started to dream about smoking (Hajek & Belcheer, 1991). Research further suggests that activity in prefrontal cortex (the part of our brain responsible for goal setting, logic, attention) decreases during sleep, whereas the part of our brain responsible for processing images (visual
cortex) increases. Therefore, with the brain unrestrained, our imagery runs wild and possibly expresses our unconscious in abstract ways.
