A live to web event we recently hosted on Chronic Post Procedural pain with Drs Amanda Phoon Nguyen, Steven Parker and A/Prof Geraldine Moses ✨ Lots of great discussion, did you tune in? 😊

Today is the start of Facial Pain Awareness month. Earlier in the month, I presented a live web event alongside A/Prof Geraldine Moses and Dr. Steven Parker on chronic post procedural pain.

The incidence of this might surprise you, and certainly in the medical fields it is more common than you might expect (for example, 10% after a c-section). For dentistry, the reported incidence is between 2-5%.

We had a discussion around what we thought the biggest mistakes were around managing chronic orofacial pain. We talked about- informed consent, inappropriate medication 💊 prescriptions, delayed referral, incorrect diagnosis and more. What do you think the biggest mistakes are?

Is there interest in a recording of this webinar? Let me know!

Posted • Dental Mentoring Series #3 - Why is it so expensive? Handling objections

Hosted by Dr David Keir

In this episode of the Dental Mentoring Series, I chat about the tricky topic of dental costs and how to talk about them with patients. I share why it’s so important to really understand your own pricing and how to explain it clearly—especially when patients push back or say, “That’s too expensive!” I also walk through a four-step approach I use to handle those kinds of conversations: acknowledge their concern, explain the why, offer some options, and give them the space to decide without any pressure. It’s all about building trust and understanding what’s really behind the objections.

Key moments

01:25 The Importance of Communication in Dentistry

07:05 Managing Patient Objections

14:27 The Four-Step Process for Handling Objections

24:00 Identifying Underlying Concerns in Patient Objections
