We use banning orders as a safeguarding tool to protect people with disability from being harmed by providers or workers. These are very serious and we can take strong action - including fines of up to $1.6 million - if we find that a worker or business continues to operate in the NDIS after being banned.

If you have any information about a provider or worker who is continuing to offer NDIS supports and services after being banned, please contact us by phone on 1800 035 544 or via our online complaint form https://bit.ly/41gT07Q.

Reportable incidents are very serious incidents such as the death, serious injury, abuse or neglect of a person with disability. Registered providers need to notify us within 24 hours for many reportable incidents.

When notifying us, please provide as much information as possible about the incident, the safety of the participant, and the actions you’ve taken via the Registered Providers Portal: https://bit.ly/4jniWG2.

If you don’t notify us, or don’t do it within the required timeframe, you can face serious compliance action including infringement notices and fines, compliance notices, banning orders or civil penalties.

For more information about reportable incidents, including what and when you need to tell us, visit https://bit.ly/4ai48UR.

I’m honoured that Anthony Albanese has announced that I will take on the role of Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme following the retirement of Bill Shorten.

There are 5.5 million Australians with disability and our Albanese Labor Government is committed to an inclusive Australia where all people with disability can thrive and reach their goals as equal members of the community.

Minister Shorten has been a passionate and tireless advocate for people with disability – and leaves big shoes to fill.

I’d like to acknowledge Minister Shorten for his invaluable contribution to our nation and to the lives of people with disability across our country.
