It’s Allied Health Professions Day, so we’d love you to meet one of the friendly faces, leading the team supporting mums on their postnatal journey. 💜

This is Brittany, our newly appointed Allied Health Manager.

Whether it’s helping new mums recover after birth, supporting mobility and core strength, or caring for our tiniest patients in the Special Care Nursery, our physio team plays a huge role in helping families feel confident and supported.

We’re so proud to have Brittany leading the way!

It's World Physiotherapy Day! Today we're celebrating the incredible work of physios like Sarah, one of our Senior Women's Health Physiotherapists.

For more than 10 years, Sarah has been caring for Mater Maternity mums, providing advice, reassurance and gentle exercises to support recovery after birth.

Here's to physiotherapy that empowers women through pregnancy, postnatal recovery and beyond. 💜

This Women's Health Week, we're saying "yes to you". Midwives Hayley and Katie are proudly rocking their "lady bits" stock as a reminder that women's health matters every day.

Whether you're a new mum, mum-to-be, or simply navigating life as a woman, taking time to care for yourself isn't selfish, it's essential.

Let's celebrate the strength of women, the importance of self-care, and the little reminders (like these socks!) that keep the conversation going.

August at Mater Maternity!

Boys led the way this month at 54%, with girls close behind at 46%.

Our tiniest arrived weighed 2,080g and our biggest bundle tipped the scales at 4,670g.

We recently had a wonderful surprise visitor! 13-month-old James and his mum Rebecca returned to visit our Special Care Nursery - and what a joy it was to see them both.

James had a tough start to life, needing transfer to a NICU shortly after birth before coming back to continue his journey with us in SCN. Through those challenging early days, strong bonds were formed - the kind that stay with you long after discharge.

Rebecca and our NUM Emily have kept in touch over the past year, and seeing James thriving is a testament to the strength, resilience, and care that defined those early weeks.

To our incredible nursing team: this is the power of your work - the comfort, support and hope you provide in the hardest of times. And to James and Rebecca, thank you for letting us be part of your journey. Just look at those smiles!

In our Special Care Nursery, every little moment matters.

All our staff are specially trained in developmental care, giving babies the best possible start and empowering families every step of the way.

Here, CNS Sharon supports mum Wardah as they care for beautiful baby Ariana. Using gentle techniques like “hand hugs”, we help reduce stress, promote bonding, and support baby’s brain development, all through loving, hands-on care.

A full circle moment! Meet Holly, a student nurse on placement in our Special Care Nursery, pictured with Dr Geoffrey Brieger - the very obstetrician who delivered her at Mater Maternity in 2003!

Now, 22 years later, they’re side by side caring for the next generation of little lives.

Moments like these remind us how deeply the Mater legacy runs and how the care given today can inspire the caregivers of tomorrow.

This August, our Special Care Nursery is joining the Little Readers Read-a-thon - a beautiful initiative by Life's Little Treasures Foundation and The Australasian Nidcap Training Centre that encourages families to read aloud to their babies every day.

Your baby loves the sound of your voice more than anything else. Reading together not only supports bonding, but also helps reduce stress and nurtures early brain development. Studies show that babies read to in neonatal units may even enjoy improved language and writing skills as they grow.

Whether it’s a classic story, a gentle rhyme, or just a few loving words, every page makes a difference. Join us in making story time a special part of your baby’s care this August.
