March at Mater Maternity!

We had an even split between boys and girls in March.

It was a month for multiples - an amazing (and very cute) four sets of twins were welcomed into the world.

Our tiniest baby was a wee 1,920g (that's 4.2 pounds in the old scale) and our bonniest bub was 4,680g.

Beginning of the month was the busiest, with 12 bubs making their arrival on 2 March.

International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise the women who show up for other women in some of life’s biggest moments.

Our midwives and special care nurses do work that is skilled, steady, emotional and often unseen, supporting mothers, babies and each other, every day.

Today, we’re proud to celebrate a team of women supporting women, with expertise, compassion and extraordinary care. 💜

Whether it’s helping new mums recover after birth, supporting mobility and core strength, or caring for our tiniest patients in the Special Care Nursery, our physio team plays a huge role in helping families feel confident and supported.

Baby Ceceila recently received her blessing from Sr Bernadette, surrounded by love from mum Anne and proud grandma. Ceceila is the sixth beautiful blessing for this wonderful family, and we're honoured to share in their joy. 💜

It's World Physiotherapy Day! Today we're celebrating the incredible work of physios like Sarah, one of our Senior Women's Health Physiotherapists.

For more than 10 years, Sarah has been caring for Mater Maternity mums, providing advice, reassurance and gentle exercises to support recovery after birth.

Here's to physiotherapy that empowers women through pregnancy, postnatal recovery and beyond. 💜

This Women's Health Week, we're saying "yes to you". Midwives Hayley and Katie are proudly rocking their "lady bits" stock as a reminder that women's health matters every day.

Whether you're a new mum, mum-to-be, or simply navigating life as a woman, taking time to care for yourself isn't selfish, it's essential.

Let's celebrate the strength of women, the importance of self-care, and the little reminders (like these socks!) that keep the conversation going.

August at Mater Maternity!

Boys led the way this month at 54%, with girls close behind at 46%.

Our tiniest arrived weighed 2,080g and our biggest bundle tipped the scales at 4,670g.

And our busiest birthday? 1st August where we welcomed 10 beautiful babies in one day!

This Red Nose Day we wore our red noses to raise awareness of SIDS and promote safe pregnancy and sleep practices.

We recently had a wonderful surprise visitor! 13-month-old James and his mum Rebecca returned to visit our Special Care Nursery - and what a joy it was to see them both.

James had a tough start to life, needing transfer to a NICU shortly after birth before coming back to continue his journey with us in SCN. Through those challenging early days, strong bonds were formed - the kind that stay with you long after discharge.

Rebecca and our NUM Emily have kept in touch over the past year, and seeing James thriving is a testament to the strength, resilience, and care that defined those early weeks.

To our incredible nursing team: this is the power of your work - the comfort, support and hope you provide in the hardest of times. And to James and Rebecca, thank you for letting us be part of your journey. Just look at those smiles!
